What kind of revs is it reaching?
My 4age will rev to about 2500 on startup but only needs to be kicked over for 5 secs to fire. The pedal doesnt move though.
Your not reving it to get it to start are you?
When I start my 4AGZE AW11 from cold I have to crank for about 20 seconds before the car will fire.
When it does finally fire the engine revs it tits off momentarily. While this happens the throttle pedal sort of pulls itself down to the floor.
Has anyone come across a problem like this...???
I havent done any tests yet.... but it seems like there is a build up of fuel or something that causes it to rev so hard.
Leaky CSI I am thinking but there is gasket goo around the CSI so it has been removed recently.
Any other suggestions?
Cheers

ISCV holding way too open. try unplugging it first and see how that goes.
otherwise really clutching at straws it isnt massive blowby running back into the inlet tract causing a massive overrev.. just hitnking of what sspecific to your enigne given its quesitonable compression
btw when are we building the new engine.
All of them!!!... 6-7kOriginally Posted by LeeRoy
Yes... car will not fire at all unless I pump the pedal.Originally Posted by LeeRoy

if its revving that high its getting more air then just what the ISCV can flow though it. way more.
id be looking for other air leaks and what is possibly holding the TB open. too much fuel in there from failed starting attempts shouldnt allow it to rev that high if for nothing else then your air supply is choked becasue of the throttle.
yeah the fact that the pedal actually goes down about halfway by itself is a little strange... car is possessed.
I dont wanna do the motor then chuck all the ancilliaries on there and rev my new motor to 6000 on every cold start... so need to try and solve before the rebuild happens.

yeah certainly. if the pedal is depressing something is pulling it open which is really odd given any vac pulling it open would also be pulling it shut on the opposite half of the throttle plate.
out of curisoity have you checked the throttle return spring ? its in working order ?
have you tried to get an assistant to start the engine without pedal assistance and then you watch the engine and throttle from the engine bay and see what happens. and then do the same why trying to hold the thottle in place and just feel what iut does wether it sucks open ? just throwing around ideas.
bit hard to test with a couple of hours between starts as it only happens when car is dead cold...
Shouldn't have to crank so long to fire.... i'm gonna rip out the CSI tommorrow and see that it's all working properly...
