Does anyone know if any of the ignition barrels/locks are swappable from other toyotas/cars?
i have never seen a ae86 at a wreckers.. so i'm wondering if i can take it out of anythign else?!

get a locksmith out to remove it or take the column to a locksmith and get them to remove it and rekey it.
probly cost $50 if you take it to them, while your there ask for a spare.

and a hell of a lot easier than removing the ignition lock.
hehe.. i posted this in a few other forums and you have all said the same thing! lucky i asked! i was freaking out and thought i was doomed! thanks all! i had no idea that i could get a new key cut!
THANKS!
Plus, most of them are so worn that any Toyota that uses the same size key will pretty much fit...
that is if the drivers door and ignition barrel use the same key, out of 16 ae86's ive worked on this has only been the case on 2.Originally Posted by Devils

Ahh...So true! One set of keys works for both of my corollas (ae82 & ae86), and that has gotten me out of trouble before.Originally Posted by mrshin

What devils said is the way to go for a new key for your toyota even if you have the original worn key. The locksmith will make one to the new specification and you will not have a copy of a worn key.
