MA61 Diff to MA70 internals?

Hi Guys,

i've recently destroyed my MA61 diff and need to get the car back on the road asap but am having difficulties finding a replacement diff or parts.

If i buy a MA70 Turbo/Na diff can i simply swap the internals to the casing of my ma61 diff?

the ma61 diff has a bolt pattern that bolts into the floor in a specific way that a ma70 diff wouldnt simply bolt in to replace it, so i see swapping the internals as the only way forward. At the same time ma70 diff should be stronger than the ma61 diff? i need something that the v8 isnt going to break again.

not a chance.
F series are 7.5" crownwheel
G series are 8" crownwheel

if you wanted to spend mega$$$ you could try but your best bet is another stock diff or a gx71 diff which is a G series but it runs different axles and requires some modding of the rear x member.

There are more cars than MA61 to source an IRS F series diff from as well!

Some RT142 coronas has IRS, RA65 celicas, etc...

RA65 is the same apparently but no LSD, you could swap ur relevant parts over, depends which bits you broke I guess...

well on inspection it looks like everything is in one piece.

it looks like the springy bit in the middle of the diff has been hitting the top of the cog at the front of the diff that connects to the prop.

everything is in once piece still just looks worn where the two bits have been smacking.

I got all the bits of metal out of the diff and re-filled it and it now turns (was locking before, must have been small bits of metal in the cogs) but still making a knocking sound from the passenger side driveshaft.

Could it simply be a bearing as gone?

Was your ma61 diff factory lsd from a 2.8gt? Because if it was then that should tolerate the 1uzfe easily? If you are drifting in it i suggest a lock diff.

Stock F-series centre isn't very strong, I can see a 1UZ breaking it. However an F series with TrueTrac internals will cope just fine; this is what I'd be doing instead of trying to make a square peg fit in a round hole.

My car is a 2.8gt but it didnt come with LSD.

The 1uz seems to be too much for the standard diff although saying that my diff has covered 150k miles.

Has anyone got contact details for TrueTrac?

Ideally i need to buy a complete rebuild kit with new internals and then get a local diff company to rebuild it for me.

The 7.5" TrueTrac diff centre is designed for Hilux 4WD's, so have a chat to your local offroad parts supplier and see if they can get them in.

Otherwise, RabidChimp in the US is a good source, that's where I got mine. They'll also supply bearings etc for a full rebuild.
