This is an interesting thread, here in the Uk we have the relatively new Time Attack series, a sort of extended sprint format based on fastest lap times. Most of the guys running in the series are tuners foremost thats who the series is aimed at. A few of the teams also sponsor some drift drivers who just happen to be full time circuit instructors & pro level drivers, eg F3, Tintop racers etc. One of the teams took to getting some lessons from these guys........

To give you some idea, Mark Johnston one of top EDC/D1 drift guys (ex F2 driver & very briefly F1 test driver) took the teams time attack car out at Brands Hatch & within 3 or 4 laps was posting lap times 6 seconds quicker than the Time Attack driver's best, who's been driving the car all season.

What I'm saying is why chuck $100k at a car when driver training costing a few hunder $'s can improve your times way better than a $10k engine ever could. Worth a thought..

i totally agree with you, we are a lot thinner on the ground with top level drivers on our side of the world though, and driver training is a lot more than a few hundred $ out here as well

Obviously this is a TT142, but you could pick up a cheap RT142 for a few hundred and sell the 22R easily on ebay to recoup costs. It'll have a W5* box in it already and an F series IRS rear end. May even have disc brakes. No idea on weight however but probably around 1100 kg or so.

Just remember that the cheaper nastier ones with the 2S (ST141) will have Borg Warner gearboxes and diffs - best avoided unless it's a freebie.

PS - Love the idea of the 2AZFE.

the corona with the F series IRS rear end was sold in australia as the "RT142 CORONA AVANTE" and they do come with discs on the back same as the ma61 rear discs i think.

That definetley would be a good thing, fairly light, decent track and big radiator intercooler opening, also the front bumper sticks out and a decent splitter could go there.

Adam Allan has built a bluebird to replace his 1200 Coupe, they are similar to the corona except it runs a solid rear axle. He has been doing testing with his and the times are impressive already straight out the box.

so you are saying that the time attack drivers are shit?
6 seconds is a long time, esp with track record of about 1.15
but i agree with your point.. no point spending 100K on a shit driver unless the driver is just out for fun and is providing capital

even if the driver is providing capital...if the goal was to advertise your business....and the driver is not good enough to get air time, or you do get air time but the car appears to be slower than the competition.....you arent reaching the goal are you?

In reply to another post... if you think spending $100k in IPRA (in NSW at least) is crazy talk you are quite deluded. The BSM guys have probably spent that much just on GT-R front diffs and gearboxes this year. :-( Even in under-2L there are guys spending huge gobs of cash.
It sounds pretty crazy to me my IP car has cost me well under $30 000 and as stated earler has the outright record at sandown and mallala as well as being a top running car whenever it goes interstate (ie 2006 Island magic champion). You don't have to spend a crapload but it proberbly makes it easier.

Lots of people try to compensate really crap house driving with cash, some think that hey mabey i need more go fast bits when actually they are just crap drivers and need to just stay home. (ie one S.A magna ip driver, couldnt drive his thumb up his arse!!!) Build something cheap and right, then when you are up there with the front runners you can really stick it to em.

Dude did you see what happend! Poor driving, he did not use his head at all. I was clearly quicker than him and i gave him plenty of racing room. so why did he still want to try and go me into the first turn? and why was the clark of course wanting to disquallify him so badly and have been "watching" him all season. The only reason they didnt was because of a wrong report from the flagies. They wanted to take it to tribunal. And as far as my fellow competitors go if they are going to play like that then 08 is war. Im here to race not make mates.
