You can buy Urethane 2pac really cheap, it is the stuff they use on trucks. It is as tough as nails. 4 litres of topcoat colour and 2 litres of hardener for under $200.00. Autothane is one of the brands of Urethane I have used, and I can not recommend it highly enough.

You just have to have all the prep work and as much masking as possible done before you turn up at the booth. Look around and get some prices from different paint shops.

    cheers Chuck.
Chuck can you PM contact details for this Booth ?

Got a workmate ready and raring to paint his car but needs a booth.

Is happy to pay in cash and has all his stuff ready to go.

    Cheers

Not everything is on the "Net" Most panel beater I know would not know how to set up a web page!

Look through the phone book and you will probably find half a dozen paint shops in a light industrial arae close to where you are. Go and check them out. See if anyone is willing to accomodate you. As for gear, a SuperCheap $60-80 gun and a bunnings respirator with vapour filters $30.00.

Like ian said though, the finish has to be good or it could be a monumental waste of time that devalues your car.

    Jezz pm sent.

Agreed, if you paint your TA22 with any form of enamel, you will drop its value significantly. If you do it with a brush/roller/rattle can, even worse so.

Acrylic will be the least mess, best result method of painting your TA22 which won't fuck it completely and ruin any hope of it being properly restored later without huge painstaking effort. Acrylic can be painted in your back yard without the need for any shed/garage/enclosure etc, and for about $200 worth of gear, it will save you huge headaches (yup those $100 superthief auto air compressors will actually allow you to spray a car - have done it before, and their cheap gravity HVLP spray guns aren't too bad for putting on a coat of jam - bought mine on special for $40)

no, they're both bad but inhaling solvents and paint (via the lungs, mucous membranes and the skin) will make you sick as. Get some disposable overalls from bunnings and a vapor-proof (not just particulate) mask.

Problem with the 2k is that it stays tacky for too long, and is bad for bugs, dust, leaves and overspray. Acrylic dries quick enough that overspray is a non-issue, and bugs, dust and leaves are not a huge problem.

Reduce your normal hardener by 20% and add 20% fast hardener. No tacky hassles.

Does black acrylic need clearcoat? I read different shit all the time and most of the time I've read that basic colours (as in not metallics, pearls etc) dont need a clearcoat but then I read about UV scorching and birdshit/ tree sap stains etc...

It still won't dry nearly as quick as Acrylic... that shit drys like nobody's business and is far more suited to open air spraying than a 2k with fast hardener.

What type of primer? Thinners of the appropriate type should remove it if it isn't enamel...

Buy black acrylic topcoat, it will have clear in it to give the gloss. However if you purchase black basecoat, then you definately will require a clearcoat over that.

    cheers Chuck.
