Most cars from factory have a slight orange peel effect when you look closely. Look at the original paint and try to match the original degree of peel. Sanding with 2000, will not take a great deal of paint/clear off, you would have to be very aggressive to go through to the colour. What you are sanding off now is the top of the hills, it is when you break through the trough of the valleys that you have gone too far. Probably takes me a full day to colour sand a newly painted TA22 Celica. It is a slow and steady approach, continually drying off the surface that has just been sanded to assess the flatness of the work.

    cheers Chuck.

I take it i will get a better shine with less orange peel? If I sand theirs hills off how much clear do u think will be left on the car? We put on 4 coats. I will work at it after work each day. Thanks again. Will post pics hen I,m happy with it. I have next week off work so i can put it all back together then.

I guess I could look at door trims or under bonnet for original paint?

Yep paint is like a mirror, the flatter the surface the better the reflection or shine. If you just take it down flat, then buff, you will still have 85% of the clear left on the car.

    cheers Chuck.

Nah maybe its just the camera making it look worse. And its not the overspray that causes that either so don't worry about that.
I'm lazy so I started cutting mine back with 1200 before the 1500 but its dangerous doing that as you can take too much off.

the peel is a bit to fine, it looks like the clear went on a bit dry, you will have to flow coat it or you will be sanding it for days.
the swirl marks are from the lambs wool pad, just make sure its cleaned often while buffing.

The orange peel is pretty small that photo just makes it look really bad. I will try sanding it. If it looks like it is to much work I guess we give it another go with clear. So 50% clear 50% thinners? We did 2 clear to 3 thinners. Any tricks to this flow coating?

What is the best setup to spray clear for the gun? very wet? high pressure etc. Can someone let me know. cheers. It was coming out pretty misty looking when we did it.

should be sprayed at about 1 bar of pressure and needs to go on wet but not to wet as to get a run, thats the hard bit.
just make sure your over lapping is even
