Hmmm, okay thanks all. I think i'll go with the quick prep and treat then some of that Hichem stuff. Rather be putting the cash into the car at the moment.
Supra967, love the gantry. That is pretty new steel. There should not be any exfoliation corrosiuon, just a little bit of surface rust.
Step 1 scuff off the majority of the surface rust with 60 grade sand paper,
Step 2 apply a rust converter such as Dulux Deoxidine,
Step 3 paint the gantry with some haemertone paint.
As an indication of coverage, one litre of this paint will give a single coat to a 6x4 trailer.
The haemertone paint is an oil based paint, commonly used on trailers. Unfortunately most trailer makers only slap one a single coat. I have repainted a couple of trailers over the years, and with 2 coats of haemertone, they are still going strong after many years exposure to the elements.
cheers Chuck.

Hey anyone know a good media blaster here in vic? prefer dandnenong side of town?
i would like to get the crown soda or walnut blasted so i dont have to disassemble the car, ie want to leave all chrome (other than the easy to remove stuff) and glass in place for the time being.... iknow it snot the best practice but i really just want to strip it to see what i have to work with... jam it, register it then do all the mechanical mods like engine conversion then re visit the body for a full resto. REGO is the main prerogative atm as im sure they wont approve the mechanicals later on

something like walnut media will abrade glass and most likely chrome? No idea about soda blasting but I'd be worried about what it would do to glass.
Soda blasting should be ok on glass - but it will make one hell of a foamy mess in any cavity it gets into that gets wet (read inside of your door will be a bubble bath - not good for the winder mechanisms, especially if electric)
Looking at your pic, I would use sandpaper to rub back the worst areas and use rattle cans of a similar white (Holts Duplicolour seems ok) to cover over the worst areas for the purposes of rego. I did spot repairs to much worse on my last RA40 to get it through a roady and it was fine.

i have used killrust on the mrs motorbike frame, very easy to use, sets like a rock and is cheap, 1lt was around $40 and it will go a very long way, just scuff up with a red scotchbright pad and clean wit some prepsol (clean before you scuff too) and away ya go,
ke20 being restored and soon up for sale
I am about to do the underside of the TA22 this weekend and am leaning towards POR15. Its expensive, but everything i read about it is good.
Question is how much will i need? will 1l do it or should i get 4l so that i can do the inside of the car/boot etc.?

I used 2L to do the whole underside, firewall, engine bay, boot area, all window openings, roof rails and windscreen opening on my RA28. I will get another litre to do the diff, suspension and outside of the fuel tank. If you are only doing the underside, 1L will be enough. If you are doing the inside of the boot, engine bay and a few other odd spots, then 2L would be the go. Remember, once you open the tin and expose the paint inside to humidity, it starts going off. When you reseal the tin (hopefully with the intention of using the remainder in a couple of days), use 2 layers of cling film, or you will never get the lid back off.

how well does it actually last in the tin though? is it regular to hear of it going off within say... a month or so or are we talking like a year of shelf life after first opening?

Cool, Thanks man.
If your tin is still fine i'll go for the 4l cause i'm sure i'll want to do suspension components and whatnot when the time comes. (and 1year is the planned timeline i have for the project)

of two 6 year old 1L tins, one has formed a skin on top but is liquid underneath (maybe lid not sealed), the other has separated, but after a quick stir looks fine...
edit. NOT POR... this is for the cheaper shittier Killrust paint or similar... NOT for POR15...
