it'll have enough to break T's... besides, i paid $600 ready to bolt in. Beat that! My last one munched enough diffs to warrant a hilux rear end.
Yeah, coz the rotary is going to have uber torque right?Originally Posted by 5000gt
F-series FTW. Heaps of info on toymods. Try searching for "MX13" or "F series" for example...

ok iv sifted through the crap in this thread and what im gonna do is leave the standed diff mini spool it and put disk breaks on it the wheels i am gonna use are 16 inch 205/40 that should not break axles or will last for a while.
im trying to build a learning drift car not a full on drift car after i actullly start to get good i will get something better.
cheers for ya help fellas
catch ya jake
Few things to add, firstly. what do you need a handbrake for to drift? you mean provoke oversteer which last time i checked had little to do with drifting! (sorry just teasing)
If you want a good handbrake a drum rear will actually be better than alot of others, that main issue with a drum rear end is heat, but becasue drifitng is done in short stints you probly wont have bad rear end fade like you would on a cicuit car,
Go to a good brake shop that does alot of the local race cars, give them your brake shoes and tell them you want to have somthing bonded to them that will be grabby as hell from cold and wont see much heat, and you want extra rivets in them.
its been a long time since i have seen T series shoes you may need to weld reinforcements around the yokes to stop them bending.
keep them well hoofed up and they will serve you aswell or better than a disc brake rear end.
want better hand brake is really quite easy to setup a cheap hydrulic setup with some basic fab tools, and agian a drum rear will grab as hard or harder than most disc rears aslong as its well adjusted and maintained
drum dont work have been out to mallar and they heat up to quick and dont work after the first corner eg. the esses this disk rear set up has the hand break working as a drum i spoke to a guy on here today and he has built some for people and its the same set up they use in the sprnters trust me its fine
thanks for ya help anyway
cheers jake
yes a disc over drum setup is common. But will ony give you a shitty handbrake.
you will get MORE heat and less efficent braking, for the sheer fact the drum is so small,
I am really confused as to how you start to fry a drums after 1 corner,
It normaly take a few laps to start to get noticeable fade due to drum heat,
i dunno its just the first corner the hand brake worked but the rest of the track it wouldnt and yes in my driving style i like to drift with a hand brake
Gents, I'm not sure who you've been talking to, however I've found that the only time drums ever gave me a problem is when they "adjusted" themselves tighter and started to lock on. This caused everything to heat up and the handbrake stopped working (and the drums were damn hard to pry off).
However during normal drifting, the stock drums were fine.
And while I haven't fitted them yet, everything I hear from the boys I know running ST141 discs on their T series suggests that the handbrake is very good and not prone to fade problems at all.
Also, slidin23, some punctuation would make your posts a lot easier to understand.

I need a working 4AGE bottom end. Pref smallport GZE, but all others considered. Also complete motors.
Drift Volvo. Was fun. 2JZ next time.
Technically speaking you not actually drifting as the denotation of the word would suggest but I will stay away from this argument as I am prejudice,

well im not actully asking what you think about drifting just i wanted to know the hand break options.
sorry about the writing im doin a thousand things right now.
cheers jake
i'm running a t series (with disk conversion) in my car with about 120kws at the treads and using a 2way LSD.
I have not broken an axle or pinion or even adjusted the handbrake! The setup has been faultless since installation and survived about 6 drift days and 4 track days. The handbrake locks up very well, but as your drifting progresses you shouldnt be using the handbrake much at all. And if you do you will be well into the slide making small adjustments only, which wont require an excessively good handbrake anyway(ie hydraulic) Just my experience anyway.
