08826-00080A Toyota sump sealer is the go!
$35 approx.
Hey guys,
It will now be the fourth time since i rebuilt my engine since my sump gasket has blown. I've used three different brands of gasket silicone but none of them seem to be doing the trick.
Just wondering if anyone else has encountered this problem before and if they have what caused it and what did you do to fix it?

surfaces clean and degreased (and cleaned of degreaser) before assembly?
surfaces actually flat, or close to?
are you tightening up fully when silicon is wet? or tightening to hand tight, waiting for it to cure a bit, then finshing it off after?

Make sure you use good quality sealant, dont make my mistake! I used some dodgy 'sump' sealant which never seemed to go off. It ended the life of my engine when it broke down in the oil and blocked my oil pickup![]()

i've been cleaning and flattening all surfaces very throughly each time and using toyota sealent.
Maybe the mistake i'm making is tightening up the bolts too much early on.
So the go is to get it in position, tighten the bolts finger tight, wait for it to go off and then do them up tight??

i don't know with toyota sump sealant (does it fully cure?) but for silicon it can help... just gives a little bit more material to be squashed

where abouts is it leaking from the sump? a leaking crank seal or CAS inner oil seal can sometimes look like a sump leak
does it fully sure??
most of the oil is coming from the rear of the engine, but there is still a lot of oil else where around the whole sump

As jp said alot of the time a leaking crank seal or leaking rear main can dribble and seem to be the sump when in fact it isnt.
its not the rear main, there no oil on the back of the flywheel. could be a crank seal. where will it come from exactly? i didnt think the oil could get out from that seal?

use that nissan red gasket goo its thick as, it works the best ive found but beware when you go to take that sump off again it will fight you
dont use the gaskets just goo.
i dont have a funny or cool signature.
Use gasket stripper or a wire brush on a drill to get the surface clean.
Make sure the sump plate is straight. Does the block have any pitting on it?(even though silicon should fill these up) Are you using the windage tray aswell?
I dont think you really need to let it set slightly then tighten her up. Just gasket goo it (not too much though) then bolt her up. Wait a day to go off. drive away.
Otherwise it could be a rear main or front crank seal. When the front crank seal leaks and you drive it flicks oil up the back?
Make sure you use the Toyota black sealer glue and not a gasket of any type

well to be sure......i d be puttin the car on jack stands giving the whold engine a thurough degrease and hose down.
Then strat the car up and let it idle. turn it off after a short period and get under it and have a good look to see where the leak is starting from![]()
This way you wont be chassing your tail and guessing its the sump ! Like the others have said oil can come from bloody anywhere . You need to make sure you have the source.
