you will find it will make a difference but not enough of a difference...upgrading the pressure plate is a necessary part of an "uprated" clutch
G'day guys,
Quick question really, I've got a near perfect 7m clutch kit sitting at home, only got about ~10,000kms worth of driving and as a result it looks fine. When my car is back together however, the new power is likely to exceed the stock clutchs holding power. I was wondering what the results of using an exedy 5 puck sprung center disk in the stock pull type pressure plate would be? Lots of chattering? Clutch slip? Any input would be appreciated, Cheers guys.
Ash.

Yeah, it will help but prbly not enough!
When I looked into getting a heavy duty clutch for a 1jz (same clutch setup as the 7m), I was told repeatably that the pressure plate design was really good, and they could be modded for increased clamp really well...
I'd get the pressure plate done...
Cheers

Any ideas on the procedure to increase the clamping force with the standard pressure plate? I took the pressure plate into a local clutch place and they didn't know how to do it easily as it was a pull type. I presumed yo'd need to repace the whole diaphram in the cluthc to thicker, stiffer gauge metal.
call extreme clutch
they can do it
your local guys are nubs by the sound of it

As said, call a decent clutch shop!
Any number of places in Bris can do it (not helping you much!), Raceclutch, NPC, Direct...!

hmmm, yer the guys i spoke with didn't seem all that knowledgable.. So then i guess my next question would be,
Does anyone know of some decent clutch/brake companies around melbourne, preferably on the south/west side?
Thanks again![]()
Definitly upgrade the pressure plate. Its what gives you most of the grab on a clutch. Pretty much the only diference between the normal and a "heavy duty" clutch is the pressure plate. You'll know if the pressure plate is good cos it will be a heavy mother of a thing.
My exedy sports pressure plate for my 4AGE i would say is close to 3 times heavier than my stock one.
But then again it goes with the heavy kaaz, g/b, turbo and the list goes on![]()

Has anyone heard of any problems when using heavy duty pressure plates? Ie. over loading the crank thrust bearing? I was told that apparently the extra pressure due to the thicker diaphram on the presuure plate could cause excess stress on it, and prematurely wear it out?
