visual aids (not the disease kind) rock the casbah.

that is what everyones talking about, IMO the only thing to ever use on brake/clutch lines.

ENKI... wont work on brake lines.

Also, I find that multigrips work well to crack the nut, then you can use an open spanner to undo it. Once its rounded... Vice Grips are the only solution (havent tried a stilsons - otherwise known as a pipe wrench, or if your a seppo, a monkey wrench )

As for pipe spanners... Inosent, why do you say the Kincrome ones are shit?? Are they of a lower quality than the rest of their tools?? I find their range of sockets help prevent bolt rounding in an amazing way (snapped a few heads off though, including an M16 bolt head

a 'quick wrench' would work also, and are great for things like this,

most tool stores sell them, i got mine from supercheep, cost about $15 each, but are well worth it,

flarenut/pipe spanners are alot diferent to sockets

ive got a set of kingchrome flare nut spanners, and everytime i used them on a pipe/hose they would OPEN up, and just round the nut.... (the ends one the spanners open up/flex)

spent some big dollars on some SNAP ON ones, and havent rounded another nut in 6mnths (they are fully sik)

very good if you play with brakes alot!

What were the SNAPON ones worth each?? Might be worth buying a 10mm one if nothing else.

ive got some funky "forged in USA" jobbie.

got no idea how the fuck it ended up in our tool collection, and neither does dad, and there are no markings on it other than the aforementioned "forged in USA"

10mm on one side, 12mm on other. bombed.

I bought some uber crap ones... they opened up first time I tried to use them. I then heated them up till they were glowing red, quenched them in oil to try and harden them... but that did nothing but turn them a pretty blue They still opened up at the first sign of resistance.

Might have to go talk to the snap on man next time I see his truck parked up

    Gidday

Hope you haven't used vise grips of the like yet. They should be last resort.

I have had significant success with a 6-8-10 inch cresent wrench - now no hooting from all of the spectators - get then on the nut and then wriggle them as you tighten up the adjuster (even use some pliers to tighten them if necessary) keep eveything square and then apply force. This has always worked for me and will even work if the corners of the nut have been rounded. As a matter of principle I always have the first attempt at undoing brake lines this way as vise grips etc deform the 'nut'.

It is about the only good use that I can think for cresent spanners - remember make sure they are real tight and when you have cracked the line go to a real tool.

    Cheers Craig

you mean nut fuckers?? ie adjustable spaners??

If you do it right, the multigrips dont leave burrs on the nut.

but you said that 'vice grips etc' deform them... I would put multigrips into that category, and they have cracked every single one I have ever tried since discovering the method (through sheer frustration and lots of rounding) without deforming a single one. Only a few of the early ones got burred too. And I worked for 2 1/2 years at a ford wrecker, and half a year at a holden wrecker using dodgy wrecking yard tools... I assure you I have pulled off hundreds upon hundreds of brake lines... only telling you what works... also seems a lot less effort than tightening nut fuckers with pliers

PS... dont take this to heart... I may sound mean, but Im just having a chuckle.
