brake boosters

Hey there I have an RA40 and I was wondering if I can use a brake booster and master cylinder from another car that will give me better stopping power.

For example I have a new Commodore one here that I was thinking of using. is it just a matter of making it fit and hooking it up or do I need to take anything else into concideration

different master cylinder changes the brake pedal force and travel.
bigger diameter booster reduced brake pedal effort.

neither increase your stopping power directly, but can make pedal easier to push.

can you not lock up wheels as it is? if not, then booster could help.

if you can lock up wheels, then booster will not help braking power (just the pedal effort)

yeah I can lock them up when I stomp on the pedal. the one that is on the car is old and rusty and with all the front suspension out and the brake lines out. I was looking to put a newer one in. So im guessing that if I can make the vl one fit I could use it?

fi you can fit it... then why not?
if the diameter of the working bits is significantly different, then you may have a difference in effect.. ie, too much or too little boosting (sucks to have a touchy pedal...)

also, it is the condition of the insides that is important check the VL one before it goes in...

HI buddy i used a booster slave ect complete from a GA70 in MY TA23 same as RA23 if an a RA40 has the same booster mounting holes it slips straight on with out changing the pedal assembely at all. This was used in conjuction with a brake up grade also. Im sure if you want one there would be plenty of ppl on here with one left over from there 1G conversion.Most ppl only use the slave.

I hear that getting your stock booster rebuilt can make quite a bit of difference, especially on older cars.


(admittedly rebuilding a new car booster probably wont get a different result)
