I want to get into circuit racing with my ae71, Saterday afternoon sprints at QR etc.

slap it back together, put suspension in car, good tyres, drive until engine breaks.. build new engine to desired output...

nothing better than gettign out there first and having fun, regardless of what engine

Head needs attention but im just going to go with a factory rebuild, No special parts.

If my Corona doesn't sell i will take that to the track for a squirt.

all aussie aw11's had 7 big blocks.

the 3 rib blocks in aw11's were only found in pre 86.9 vehicles which were never aussie delivered

Auto 1 and Repco don't have a listing for a 18/40 bottom end, Toyota has new parts for late model aw11's.

    I need new pistons so.....

from memory ACL do pistons bearings everything for both the 20/42 and the 18/40

there are also a couple of vairations in terms of piston ring size as well.. from memory there is a 0.8 0.8 1.0mm and a 1.0 1.0 1.0 versions (someone correct me on sizings) but from memory without looking it up the early 3rib/18/40 engines had a smaller ring height.

can someone else shed some insight into this ?

thaty might be a nice way of identifying your pistons... although that one is looking a little out of round ahahha

    Pistons = $220
    Chrome rings = $125
    Big end bearings = $50
    Main bearings = $90
    Thrust bearings = $27
Full set of gaskets = $260

Total = $772 + $135 to get the crank reground if need be.

Thats with 20 thou over size pistons.

I would have said it was an AW11 motor do to the Crank pulley. I've had my fair share of 4AGE's. Currently have an AE86 Kouki motor (Bigport 7rib). Great Motor it is, seems to have been rebuilt in japan as it still holds near factory compression and goes like the clappers.
Good luck on your journey, which ever path you may take

FWIW its a RWD drive engine pictured in the first pic of this thread. ...... You can easily tell as the head doesnt have the mounting holes for the engine mounts between the cam gears

Also i believe you have the 88-89 4AGELU with the 9.4:1 factory comp ratio.
This will be helpful when ordering parts.

Ae82 bigport, No mounts on the head, The mounts go just under the head. 4agze is the only 16v to have mounts in the head.

    hmmmmm .... ok
I thought the mounts tied into the head on all FWD's not just the GZE

I have a bigport head with the mounts in the middle. Does this mean its off of a bigport GZE???

Is there a bigport GZE ???
EDIT: yeah there are GZE bigports --- mental blank
