Yeah, it's totally my caps.
Oi doofy, gimme your spare ecu, DC.
mine also does the same thing - seems like a very common problem with the 1jz?
i have the same misfiring/backfire issue, and when starts to hit boost has hestitations
then once warm...is no worries, idles fine and drives well across the rev range
anyone found the most common fix for this?? as still seems a bit up in the air, ppl checking/replacing pulgs, coils and still having this issue
weird such a common issue with the 1jz -
!!gotta figure out why the transition from cold to warm makes such a difference!!

previous toyo's - 2 celica's, 5 soarer's, cressida, corolla, 3 supra's, 2 celsior's
previous toyo engines - 18rc, 18rg, 7mgte x2, 1uzfe x5, 4agze, 1jzgte x2, 1ggte x2
current toyo's- toyota supra jza80
My 1J so far also seems to have this problem, it sometimes blows smoke and runs rich (spitting out fuel) when cold but when it's warm no problems.
Mine never used to really hesitate when coming on boost, it used to "fart" a bit higher up in the rev range though. I pulled all of my coilpacks out and used electrical glue on them... all sorted.Originally Posted by DenZel

I found when I had a clogged fuel filter it tended to misfire a bit in the upper end of the rev range as it was running out of fuel.
But I'd be putting it down as cracks under the coilpack boots, fouled/incorrect plugs/incorrect plug gap, or crook ECU capacitors.

yeah well coils ive checked and double checked... plugs are new and gapped properly.... and yeah i guess i should check the ECU.
It only happens just before coming on boost on light to medium throttle... high up in the revs, and coming on boost hard its great....

mine currently does this...
because of the crack coilpacks, it misses up high...
and because of the small plug gap, it misses until its warm (0.7mm gap)
if i change the plugs out for 0.8mm gapped ones, the missing while cold stops, but the car breaks down on boost.
yeah i was thinking about the TPS cos we set the haltech up to read it so i might return the map to being completely standard and see how it goes then...
