2e-c runing on

my mates 2e corolla runs on once he has turned it off he came back from a long (3hr)drive and when he turned the ignition off the car kept runing. i was thinking it's eather:
-a solenoid or bad timing. on short trips it only runs for a few seconds.

how long did it run on for after the long drive?

If it was a long time it might be something wrong with the ignition switch, once it's turned to off the coil shouldn't be getting power anymore so there shouldn't be enough spark for it to keep running for more than a couple of seconds, running on is usually attributed to the carby

It's called "dieseling" and it happens even when the ignition is off. It's usually caused by carbon buildup in the combustion chambers which leads to hot spots, and/or ignition timing too advanced. The former can be fixed with water down the carby throat while the engine is running at about 3-4000rpm, the latter is fixed with a timing light and factory service specs on hand.

If there are wires going to your carby then that's probably it.
