Default TA23 1G Project / gte or gze???

    Hey guys,

if there is already a thread on this please redirect me but i couldnt find any.

Firstly i need some opinions about what is a better engine the 1ggze or 1ggte as i am looking to put one in my ta23 in the fairly distant future, which brings me to my next point.

Why does no one put the 1G in ta23's?? you would have to swap over a few parts; xmembers, drive shaft yoke etc or is there more to it than that??

    Cheers

    gte

    and people do do it.
from what i understand its the 22's they dont fit in, 23 and 28 are longer in the nose than the 22.

1GGTE is more common and easier to get a bit more power out of by just adding a simple bleed valve to up the boost to around 15psi. I also have read that the supercharger pulley protrudes out a fair distance and can foul on the radiator since the ta22's engine bay is shorter than a 23/28.

1G's are getting old now and harder to come by for a good oneso Id think twice before doing a 1G conversion. But thats just my opinion

gte's shit over the GZE's for ease of power later on,

TA23's are rarer overall so they are less 'popular' to modify, because there are less of them out there. I think the production run that came to Australia was less than 10 months long, while 23/28's ran for two odd years, IIRC.
RA2x's have the longer nose so they are more accomodating for a 1G engine. The crankshaft pully does stick out further forward than the GTE one, the third 'wheel' is there to drive the supercharger. It's no problem to to fit a GZE into a RA2x, with the right standard factory engine brackets it bolts straight on to stock 18R rubber mounts. There is no problem with a radiator either, a KA/KB Laser one mounts in perfectly further forward than the stock one (thus clearing the supercharger pulley's and still leaving room for an electric fan. You just have to drill two mounts and modify the top support bracket slightly. I still run air con in my car too.
You have to custom mod your crossmember on one side to fit a GTE in. Yes, the GTE can be made to produce more power, very easily, than a GZE. Having said that, my standard GZE ran on a dyno the other week and was producing more power to 100km/h than a 2JZ converted from its sequential stock set-up to a 'true' twin turbo arrangement. If you want grunt off the line and don't need 250hp, get a GZE!

    Hey there,

Personally, I rather like the idea of the instant torque of the gze. I had a 4agze corolla, and it was really nice to drive for that reason.

If you're not after outright power, i think the gze is worth a shot.

    cheers,

Right now i am more interested in some pannels, such as a drivers door, driver side front guard (and a passenger door if the price is right) because i need to paint the car before i start the engine work.

But if you have any of those pannels i might be interested

    who doesnt need 250 hp?

a standard 1g has very little boost hole anyway, i had an rb20 turbo on mine, with a 6boost mani and when running well on LPG was making full boost of 9 pound just after 3000rpm
