    Hmmm.

    Interesting.

    Very interesting.

How strong did you say these things were?

How would they cope on a drag strip?

(I've got silly conversion ideas in mind again)
depends if the gearbox is an A34x type with detachable bell.....

MS-75... these things are one of the stronger synchro manual's you can get off the shelf... it'd be safe to say this thing would handle more than a v160 (and we all know what the supra 6spds have been put through).... Cant really put a number on it or anything, but it might be interesting to know these are used behind plenty of 8+ litre v10 twin turbo viper's in the states...

All that said, i'm just stating things as i see them.... not trying to sell anything.... heck, i tried sending these guys an email and am still to receive a reply...

    Needs more ECU.

By the way have you seen the two massive Kray supercomputers sitting under each front seat?

Can't say I've had the seats out recently. Any idea what they do?

One thing I have noticed under the passenger seat is the handgun holder.

Dude-that is exactly what I've been looking for.......

I briefly considered a Getrag 6 speed from the Poopra, but I was a little worried the 1FZ might damage it-yes, 2js REGULARLY exceed the HP levels I have achieved so far-but the torque the big boat anchor makes is upwards of 800ft/lb. I was scared off by the possible cost of a getrag (a second hand one), and then the bill I'd be up for if I smashed it. If this is the box that goes behind the turbo Viper motors, it would survive anything the 1FZ could muster.

This may mean I ditch the powerglide plan. (I have always hated the idea of only 2 gears and no overdrive-even if I only get to use it on the retun road..)

    Right-off to research stuff.

( I've already got the adaptor plate that currently allows me to have the A340 trans and bellhousing attached to the 1FZ. Unbolt A340, attach adaptor, bolt in 5-speed. Very evil possibility...)

wouldnt you better off going for a lenco or liberty? with the bucks youve spent on the motor and the power it will put out, i know there more expensive but if you only want to do it once thats the way id go.

the tremec is strong but im not sure if it will be strong enough to suit your needs.

    cheers

Yes, you are completely correct-lenco or liberty would probably be a better choice if I could race regularly-and had a few more $$. Having no strip here really affects the componentry selection on this car. Unfortunately, a lenco or liberty will start at DOUBLE the cost of a TKO and make dyno tunng a real pain (as soon as you back off, they go into neutral, or some shit like that). Given it also spends a lot of it's time on the dyno-a drag box will not be any good for that reason.

The TKO may be a good starting point, with the ultimate being a TKO and dog gear set. ($$ though, so at least 12+months after I'd put the box in.)

If it's the same as a tricked out poweglide $$ wise, it may actually better suit what I do with the car ATM. Dyno work, Dyno comps and the (very) odd interstate race trip.

I dunno though. I could just as easily decide it's a dumb idea tomorrow......

    I'll do some research first.

The thing that worries me is the rating is about 450ft/lbs, but then again, if the turbo Vipers use them, it'll be fine.

    Decisions, decisions.

actually, the tko600 is rated at 600ft/lbs and the 500 being 500ft/lbs. You must be looking at something smaller like a tr3650 or t56....

I've just put money down on a 600 with aftermarket gearset from this forum..... hopefully my v12 wont break it...

Note the 600 ft/lb figure on the TKO600 isn't the peak torque it can handle, it's the constant sustained torque it can handle (ie for a whole day or something). By comparison the Getrag is rated at something like 350 ft/lb, but we all know it can handle a shitload more than that!

Norbie hit the nail on the head. The TKO600 is rated at a sustained 600ft/lb. It will take much more over short periods of time.

    Ah. I understand now.

After talking to a mate today, I've canned this idea. The general consensus is that although it would be more fun to drive, it would be a sure-fire way to stack the car at the track.

See-I told you I'd change my mind.
