Do I get this right ? Your temp sensor is AFTER the radiator ??????Originally Posted by Vios-GT_07

Yeap.. i've gone through three thermostats now, two 82 degree ones and one 91 degree... all three have made different results.. the first 82 degree thermostat didn't hold temperature very well and the 91 degree i'm using now is doing alright but still the coolant temp drops a bit too much on the freeway cruise. It is possible the thermostat is allowing water in past the 91 degree mark and still exiting the engine lower than 91 degrees? Reason i ask is because i'm picking up temperatures coming out of the engine lower than 91 degrees, and i can't figure out why.. then it goes through the radiator, and is picked up by the temperature sensors at wayyyy below 91 degrees.. hence fast idle and stupid air fuel mixtures..
but yea again, with the 91 degree thermostat, it warms up faster and gets to normal warm temperatures than with the 82 degree thermostat..

yea...
the temperature sender for the gauges is on the hose that comes out of the engine to the radiator (so water flowing out of engine)
and the coolant sensors sit on an alloy housing that takes coolant from the radiator to the engine (there's two sensors there)... that's the way the water flows isn't it? standing in front of the car it goes from left to right.. water goes into the engine from the bottom hose and comes out the top hose?

I was under the impression you were meant to take temp from before the radiator, coming direct out of engine. This setup you have not standard?
Sounds like the wax pellet in the throttle body (controls cold idle ) is operating at the wrong temp . It has water flowing thru it and works on the pemp of the water . These can be ajusted sometimes, not sure on a GE

Is this a std car or has it had an engine/ecu transplant ?
Water temp sensor to ecu MUST be where water exits the head.
erm.. that's the way it is..
the only thing that it measures coming out of the engine is the temperature that goes to the gauge on the instrument cluster.. all other sensors (there are two others) that sit perpendicular to the thermostat housing..
and yes i've solved the problem with a 2 dollar gasket ring that goes around the thermostat.. that plus i had to cut another thermostat housing's gasket to fit... solved all the problems.. apparently water was going around the thermostat and into the engine under pressure, hence the thermostat not doing its job properly.. but yea i'm still on the 91 degree thermostat and cruising for extended periods e.g. half an hour in the cold of the nights lowers the temperature down a little but not enough to trigger cold-start
that's solved most of my fueling and idle problemsnext step, diagnosis + oxygen sensor
thanks to all that gave input .. and yea i'll post up pics later on about the thermostat gasket + coolant temperature sensors
