Have a chat with Dave at SAS.... he will probably have some good advice for you.

    www.motec.com.au

You'll find a list of their dealers on their website. Alternatively, you could call their Melbourne office.

As for the Autronic, I suggest you have a chat to whoever is giving all the Toymodders their SM4s.

Like Bill (and I at an earlier stage) have said, it's a serious engine. Don't get a Comeco with rust protection to run it (gratuitous and somewhat obscure Simpsons reference).

While I agree it's a serious engine, realistically it's no more "serious" than a 2JZ or 1UZ with VVTi, just bigger - and plenty of people have successfully run those with mid-range ECU's. No you wouldn't use a bottom-of-the-range Microtech, but at that same time I question the value of a $6k plus ECU if you don't need all the crazy race-oriented features.

Of course I'm approaching this from a budget-conscious angle. OTOH if this is a "money no object" build then sure, get the Motec, they're a sweet bit of gear!

Well, I've spoken to Dave in person and he reckons he can get it going... this was awhile ago though. Will have to speak to him again soonish.

Will definitely be checking with motec dealers on monday (anyone deal with MRT before? good or bad?).

Well, still where i started, either the sm4's or m800.

GT, did you get my last few pm's?

I did, and in my usual fashion, got sidetracked.

Will respond when I get home - this locum shift is helping me pay stuff off.

Why not E8/E11? With the latest firmware upgrade they do VVTi now. I've heard good things about them so it's worth looking at if you're going down the dual ECU path.

Because i'd want Dave to tune it.... and he's done many a toymods car... most happen to be autronics.

EDIT: what are the haltech's worth anyway?

EDIT EDIT: Just checked... around the same price as an sm4 according to JEM (Haltech specialists). Something to note.... they sell a "v12 injector loom" in their products/price list.... may have to give them a call on monday. Another contender i guess....

Norbie, i have an OT question.... what's the transcode for the auto gearbox?

    cheers.

why is sequential be of such importance? it's only going ot help you at idle (and slightly) and unless you're running stupidly-big injectors (e.g. >1000cc) then you're just adding extra wiring for little/no gain.

fwiw: dual ECU means two cam sensors and two crank signals that all have to be functioning all the time. Plus most dual setups have a coordinating processor to ensure both boxes work in sync and to manage sensor input (is how the BMW V12 worked).

You could run waste-spark and banked injection with just one crank trigger wheel (e.g. a motec 60-2 wheel).

    wasted spark isn't an issue.
if you look at my pics, it runs it standard (like 1jz, 2jz etc).... in nsw, emissions is a big deal especially when you aren't running factory management.

in terms of cam and crank signals, 2 ecu's can run off the one signal from either sensors.... don't see the problem....

BTW: i'm intoxicated, so that's my excuse if i don't make sense or have spelling/grammar mistakes.

As already mentioned in this thread, the 1GZ is dual ECU from the factory so obviously it has the sensors to support that. Also there is no "coordinating ECU", each bank of cylinders operates independently.

so what happens when one ECU faults a timing sensor? surely the two systems are talking to each other to remain in sync and share relevant error codes in case of some mechanical or electrical issue.

General operating data would have to be shared as well, e.g. dealing/counting knock events - otherwise you could have one ECU degrading timing while other continues on blissfully unaware?.

are there any support docs online about the egine at all?

according to my engine repair manual, there are only 2 ecu's showing. One for the LH bank, one for the RH bank....

Bank disactivation would be my guess

    Like limp home mode 1gz stylez...turns a 1gz into a 1jz-ge?

    Cheers
