I've seen this DIY one on Autospeed which is disarmed using a magnet inside a remote, the switch is hidden somewhere behind the dash and you just have to pass the remote over it. I like the idea of that one if only I could make it self arming.

That's the benefit of doing it yourself, you know what you've immobilised and where.
when you consider where most are installed (RIGHT BEHIND THE GODDAMN BARREL) anyone with half a brain could do it, just crack the plastic cover off the back of the barrel, cut a few wires, and wire ON to constant power, and tap the start signal to constant, couldnt be easier.

IMO if your going to make a half decent effort of it, wire it in further down, near the fusebox.

    Mooro.....

seriously, just buy the fkn Shadow. Not one of the other suggestions you have come up with is Standards approved.

Just buy the Shadow, install it yourself, and stop whining.

cant sell a car without a gov't approved immobiliser installed unless its over 30 years old.

that said, it aint like they inspect every car sold here.

Correct, every car that is sold in WA must have a standards approved immobiliser fitted before the transfer of ownership papers are able to go through.

Just for the record I don't think your suggestion will be standards approved either...it has to be installed by an authorised installer to be approved.

i didnt know it needed to be installed by authorised installer.

Just invent an invoice for "authorised installation"
