I personally think anything rigged up to fool the RTA is likely to be more complicated than actually immobilising it properly?
So I will hopefully be trying to register my car soon but it is not fitted with an immobiliser. I don't want to get one installed just yet because I will be doing a fairly significant engine conversion in about 6 months and having an immobiliser would add whole heap of headaches to what is already going to be a wiring nightmare
Unfortunately I don't think it will pass the pit inspection without one so I was hoping to do something simple to fool them.
SO I was hoping to just wire up a basic kill switch and if possible activate it using a remote...even better would be to have it switch off again based on a timer.
I'm not really an electrical wizz so you will have to really spell it out for me but would it be possible to do this with basic stuff available from say Jaycar/Dick Smith and if so how the hell would I do it?

The glass is neither half empty nor half full, rather the glass is twice as big as it needs to be.
it woild be cheaper to just get an immobiliser, $30 off ebay
For the effort involved just put in a proper one, you shouldn't have to touch it when you change the engine over unless you're changing the body loom as well?
I am the sun
Yeh problem is I will be fiddling around with body loom/ignition barrel in the conversion (2zzge). If I can get one off ebay for $30 and it comes with enough infomation that I can instal and remove it myself when the time comes I will do that.
I looked at all the Jaycar kits and they require you to manually switch it on of with a hidden switch which obviously won't fool an inspector.
if the car is over 30 years? i think you do not need one fitted.
AW11 MR2, so it is only 20 yrs old![]()
Just go to Jaycar dude, costs stuff all, piece of cake, and there is no reason you couldn't re-use it when you do the engine conversion. Remember, you're immobilising stuff like the fuel pump and the starter motor, if done smartly there should be no reason to re-touch them when doing the conversion.

Problem with the Jaycar kits is they don't seem to be self arming which I think is a requirement.
there are jaycar kits that are self arming, with remote, and with all black wires.
for now, you can leave the wire ID tags on and wrap them with black tape so they can't be seen,,

$120 without mates rates, and you can hook it to central locking..
ebay = crap![]()

dude, it take about 20 mins to wire in an immobiliser, you need to cut 1 wire from memory, and tap into another 2.
simple!

Yeh I meant their cheap kits....I had an alarm professionally installed in my Silvia for that much.Originally Posted by oldcorollas

The Jaycar Shadow is a nice bit of kit, fully approved, will drive central locking, 3 immobiliser circuits, and can be extended for SFA to a full alarm.

They're not that complicated. Most thieves could disable an immobiliser if they were so inclined, it's a deterrent. They're quite simple to fit, it's just the black wiring that makes them confusing.
That's the benefit of doing it yourself, you know what you've immobilised and where.
