I find it hard to believe they are simply "crap".

I probably would be surprised!
Hmm, I might look at using a semi-synth or mineral oil instead. I should really look at the labels on mineral oils tooNever do that!

Hey guys
Thanks for all the replys
Just remember that im after oils that people have used in their 1J's
Everyone has said different things and im still up in air about choosing what oil to use so im guna post up some more details about my car:
- MX83 Cressida
- 1JZ-GTE
- T04R HKS Turbo
- 120xxx Kms
- Setting the car up for Daily/Drift
- Also running an oil cooler
- Oil changed every 5000 Kms or less
Ponder on these thoughts before posting
Thanks guys
Josh
A 1J is just an engine, there is nothing special about it, so the basics apply.
A decent semi-synthetic or synthetic with a warm viscosity somewhere around a 50 or 60 weight will do you fine, something that is suitable for a turbo engine of course. The biggest thing you probably want to do is drop the oil after the meet and give it something that hasn't been thrashed so much.
For the street, you could use the same oil or perhaps something a little thinner providing it doesn't burn.
I think what I'm trying to say is you're not going to get a definite answer on what oil you should use, everyone will have their own brand loyalties and rules of thumb, the type of oil won't change.

Put Castrol Magnatec in it. I use it in my 1G-GTE, in my 22R
and my mate uses it in his 1JZ-GTE. He has got about 60-80,000Kms out of his halfcut
1J and it is STILL GOING!!! We have done 2 drift days in it too!!!
Magnatec = Cheap + Good.

I use Castrol Edge 10w60 Full Synth in my 4AGE. Create oil recommended by a mate that works with jags/astons etc. He used it in his engine which I currently own and its keeping the 4AGE going strong.
While pricey, that Castrol Edge 10w60 does sound like a good bit of gear for something that's being thrashed a lot.

i think you will find alot of the oil companys use the same BASE OIL (ELF inc) then just use ther own additives.
also dont think oil that has synthetic written on the bottle and costs less than $15/L rrp actually is, coz a true synthetic is more like $25/L
a mate has worked for 6 different oil companies so he knows where the majority buys from and what the add to it.
cheers
