If you're proficient at changing FWD 4ag timing belts you can swap the pulley in about an hour. The pullies shag out even on well serviced 20V's. That blacktop had a genuine 90,000K's on the clock and was spotless under the cam covers.
It is common on the 20v that have not been regularly serviced
Well the pulleys are not cheap from what ive read plus your looking at another 2-3 hrs labour on top of that.

ive been looking into this as well,
so how does the pulley actually mess up ? as in its generally worn ? and from what caused it ?
also if it is left what can potentially happen, the pulley die? and no vvt, or can it mess with the timing belt, ie damage it make it break ? and how long would it take ?
it doesnt look to hard to change.. and does anyone know if only toyota ( ripoff dealers) sell it ?

hmm cool ill call my local toyota this arvo and see what they say. yeh im interested if it effects performance in anyway????????
obviously your VVT wont work, so yeah, it will effect performance, from the sound of things, your low-down torque.
Elmo.
it must just happen all of a sudden, i have the same noise, but my VVT works fine and performance is great,
im going to look into prices for it and change it perhaps

nah my vvt works..... you can hear it kick in +i have a vvt light from the blacktop which is controlled by accelerator rather than rev range.... it is def is the sound from the movie.
The VVT still functions in most cases with the noisy pulley. I've seen a couple that have caused the car to run extremely rough. A few of the guys that have replaced their AE101 pulley's with new items have reported a decent performance increase with a good non-noisy pulley.
i talked to toyota today, they said they had the pulley for 115 bucks ??
it seems to cheap, must be a mistake

buy it.
Hopefully they're not talking about the exhaust cam pulley.
no he said it was on the inlet side and he wrote down vvti pulley ?
it didnt specify the motor, it said 4age from an ae111 and it was the top pulley looking from the side on the top left running of the timing belt, it seems like the one,
he said 126.50 but 115 he dropped it to for sum reason..

that's a good price, the AE111 and AE101 pullies are different though. When I bought my AE111 pulley the RRP was double the AE101 price. I had it sea freighted and saved a couple of hundred.
i might check the price at CH toyota today for an AE101 VVT pulley, i'll let you knkow later![]()
...... butt scratcher?!
cheers that would be a huge help !
i got the pricing for the 111 pulley ? im pretty sure its the wrong one
