Just a quick thought came to my mind.
Do 3t-gte heads have a hemi design or are they like the late model 2tgs with a offset kidney sort of design. Just thinking here about interchangability. For obtainable low compression pistons for a late model 2tg.
Cheers

The head is a hemi the same as 2tg's but with 2 spark plugs. I think you question is more about pistons the 3tgte are low comp but yoy nead to use 3t crank as the 3t piston' s pin height is 4mm lower than 2t pistons.
Could be hard to source as well. I have been using a set of isuzzu G200 pistons which have the same pin size and an 87mm bore standard with a bit more crown to work with in my 3tgte, I machine the crowns down to deck height cut valve notches gives about 7.8:1 comp. Use them in my racecar no probs cost $125.00 the set with rings and a couple of hours on the lath, had the crowns thermo coated really was easy.
Had previously machined down 3t-c atmo pistons with not as much success.
Hope this is of help, Cheers Dave
Hey,
sorry to jack the thread, but TA23 racer would you be interested in making another set of those G200 pistons? and if so, how much?
No probs Ta22boy About these pistons, they are 87mm so you need to bore the block 2mm making sure your machinist only puts a slight lead in counter bore and you can still use standard head gaskets.
Yeah I would make you a set.
It's been a while since I made them, so I'll have to re-price every thing and work out the time to machine and re-balance them. I'll check my notes to double check the comp ratio.
Just a quick check you do realise these will be cast pistons so spark timing needs to be conservative.
Any questions feel free to quizz more
Cheers Dave
oh sorry didnt realise they would be cast i thought you would be using a forged item....thanks anyway though mate....
Cheers

Ta22boy "only cast pistons'' All evo pistons are cast due to them having an oil gallery to cool the ring pack feed from a block squirtter. These pistons are tested @ 220kw flywheel power @ 6500rpm for 200hours to obtain this on 98 unleaded we used 19.5psi boost juggled fuel and timing to suit. I know I did it MMAL 2003-2004 and it was fun!
Having seen the odd piston break in my time BOTH types, correct ecu mapping is the answer to piston longevity. The forged piston does give you a bit more reserve strength in hand.
These pistons are used by me because of their cost and the lack of 3tg-teu after market stuff out there. Have tried to order several parts for the old girl before, got sick of hearing it's on back order oh we don't do them for those.Serves me right for being lazy and not putting a 3sgte into the old nail the first time. Hang on the pistons in them are cast too. Do have a friend that raced with ACL hyperutechtics pistons in his 3sgte had no probs except when he pinged it all it did was push the crown down and jam the top ring. These are a good looking piston for the money what ever brand of engine.
Sorry got off track not saying cast pistons are great but I personally find forged pistons over priced and extremely hard to just buy one replacment when you need to.Cast piston do an exremely good job for what they cost. If you can afford forged pistons buy them. Sorry for miss leading you I am the budget racer.
Cheers Dave.
