i think only the brakes vary, as TA23 had 9'' rotors and the R-series came with 10''

1980RIP NATHAN BRETT DEAN2007,
Ive had ta23, ra23 and ra28 struts all side by side. Without taking measurements, they seemed exactly the same. Brakes and stuff are another question as i didnt even look at that. I ripped em off and went straight into the box of bits. Which is now find somewhere at the bottom of the ocean no doubt
Cheers,
Jase
im pretty sure DQIKST is correct about R series have 10" while ta23's had 9"
ta22 Green with cream vinyl roof, 2t/3t hybrid with a few go fast bits on + 5 speed.
ya, i tend to recall some ra40 struts i had also looked bigger in the rotor then then ta23 ones i had.

TA23s have the same front end as the TA22. As a result they both run 13 in wheels. As a result you will find that the TA22/TA23 struts are shorter than those for the RA23.
Cheers Craig
shorter by 1/2 or 1 inch?
TA22 and TA23 front ends are no the same.
TA23 is just an RA23 with a 2T engine, and TA22 brakes on RA23 style struts.
yeah, definitly wrong. TA23, RA23 and RA28 all have the same front end (vertical indicators, longer engine bay, wider front track), TA22 and earlier have their own front (sloped indicators, shorter engine bay, skinnier front end) although there's some weird crossover stuff with the TA27 and RA25 where underpinnings are TA22 but front end looks similar to the 23/28's except the engine bay is still shorter and front track skinnier like 22's.Originally Posted by ddeane
i've used RA28 struts in my TA23, they were visually the same and bolted in although i didn't think to check the brakes. haven't tried 22's but would be interested to know if they would fit as i'm trying to find some front struts and they're proving hard to come by over here in NZ.
cheers
Matt
Sorry Matt, when I refer to 'front end' I am refering to the brakes and suspension. The TA23, of which I have had one for many years, has the same engine, gearbox, suspension and brakes as the TA22. The diff housing is the same as a RA23/28 The TA23 also runs 13 in wheels like the TA22, not the 14 in wheels of the RA23. I am not going to swear on it, but I had a recollection that the TA23 struts were shorter than the RA23/28s.
I am not in the position to check 'cos there is nothing TA23 or for that matter RA23 left on my car except for the body and some of the interior. I am also currently located in PNG and the car is in Australia.
Maybe someone can check for us to clear it up.
Thanks Craig
The TA23 ran 22 springs as they ran 13in wheels. The problem with the TA23 was that it was the end of the run with TA mechancials before they started the RA series. The easy way to tell a TA from a RA 23 is the color of the woodgrain on the dash, the TA's are lighter in colour.
