Yeah, but the motor would have to run backwards. Theoretically i could just do that with reversing the polarity, unless they are using some funky angled stator thing.

Takai: I gather you don't have an offset problem, its a space-to-mount-the-bastard problem with the electric motor driving stock wp setup... But if it were an offset problem interfering with the drive belt for the alt/ps/possibly-ac ... forseeably you could use the non-rwd waterpump snout perhaps? It might sit in towards the block far enough to clear the other stuff? Maybe that would work in a GZE setup... I'm guessing here

Im not using the RWD pump anyway. Its an old FWD engine converted over, so i stuck with the FWD pump and pulley.

Ill have to figure it out sometime. Im pulling the engine in a few weeks anyway for a freshen up before it gets thrashed again at the end of the year before its rebuild, so ill look at it then.

I've run an EWP on my 86 for over a year now, haven't had any problems bar an initial faulty controller. I've installed it in the bottom hose and if i have it running full time it'll run 150degF at idle and sit at 180 at idle with controller.

well yeah.. the whole point of a water pump is to spin at a constant controlled velosity based on tempteture not with the engine revs so I dont see why an ELW would be under any more load red-lineing than a car sitting at 2500 rpm on a 30 degree day. Even if the pump was in a hot engine and had to work harder it shouldnt put any more load on the electronics to run the motor

thinking about it I doubt I have enough room to fit this electric motor in place, I will call up VPW and ask for some dimentions on this thing.

It'd be great to find out the rating (watts), revs and belt ratio of the VPW unit to see whether there may be another electric motor alternative out there

I daresay there would be heaps of electric motor alternatives. Its just a matter of finding one.

I called VPW and hes what he said from what I remember:

Diameter: 110mm
motor width (main casing only): 80mm
gear drive width: 35mm

also he said the pulled for the water pump has been drilled for common cars (falcadore) and I would have to drill one to suit mine. I am interested and I would measure the speed and current draw if I bought one.
