My ST165 didn't have a BOV either.
The turbo was good for 190k...
If the Turbo isn't running on the far-right-edge of the Compressor map, then just get a small 20-25mm BOV to allow just enough Air to escape, too much Air escaping also kills your response as bad as Surge does....
not sure about that one.Originally Posted by abently
it would all depend on where its mounted.
i run greddy type R BOV on all my personal cars and generally set them soft, this compared to no bov made a massive difference in recovery time whilst changing gears.
as far as im conserned with BOVs the bigger the better (and the bigger they are the less it sounds like youve just thrown a bucket of water at someone) and i HATE the woooooooooosh sound small BOVs make.
but i know stitt loves it
cheers

Haha, that's right. Up and down your driveway to make sure it was set soft enough for a big farkenwhoooosh11!!! when it was revved![]()

a mate of mine had issues with his valve leaking, so he packed it full of 20 cent pieces so it just gates now. has a lot less idle issues these days (also handy if your short on change)
Unless you are running a ridiculous amount of boost, then you will have no problems running no BOV.
The reason a BOV is run in the first place is when the throttle body slams closed (when stepping off) there is a large amount of backpressure. Of course this has nowhere else to go but back past the compressor wheel of the turdbro and out through the air filter, until you go back on the throttle.
This takes place in milliseconds.
But. unless you are running 9872367243 PsI, then you should have no probs.

Phil: there should be no issues with you not running a BOV. However, as I understand it under sport compact rules you must have a large sticker on the side of car that reads
FULLY SIC DOSE ULEH!
Otherwise, no points earnt at jamboree will be accumulated![]()
Interesting Linden as the back to back testing (Haltec data log) i did on my old turbo 18RG running a big TO4B front cover, showed no BOV provided better response with no BOV. Was bugger all in it though and the BOV whoosh was quieter than the surge so still ran the BOV.Originally Posted by The Real Roadrunner
Seems to be very much effected by the type of BOV and the setup of the car as to how much effect on response it has?
