This is what a previous owner did to my harmonic balancer. He made a plate that fit over the crank pulley bolt with some holes drilled into it and fastened it to the balancer with a couple bolts.

Worn enough that I reckon it was months away from failure.Originally Posted by Xistant
Thanks for the options guys, I have a lead on a good second-hand stock balancer so I'll probably go that way and see how it pans out. I'll keep everyone posted.![]()

Still waiting on the new balancer, hope to pick it up on the weekend. In the meantime I'm having fun joining wires to other wires, a thousand times over.![]()

My surge tank has arrived (I love you eBay) but it's way more massif than I expected. In fact it's so big I reckon I could remove the fuel tank and just fill up the surge tank instead. Problem is, where am I going to put the sucker? Engine bay fitment is not an option, unless I remove the engine first.
The external Walbro fuel pumps have arrived as well, I can't believe how small these suckers are! I'll get some pics tonight.

feel free to shoot me down in flames here but what about mounting the serge tank inside the normal fuel tank? isnt our tanks metal? sure it would take some F***ing around be it would be the safest option and you will not have to worry about the fuel smell??Originally Posted by Norbie
please point out where my theory falls through but its the only option i could thik of that i would do as i dont like the idea on inbay or incar fuel tanks ect.

The problem there is it involves cutting and welding the tank, which is a huge PITA due to the danger of explosion. Also the main reason I'm going with a surge tank is to feed my dual external pumps, so I don't have to screw around with in-tank setups.![]()

when you say explode, do you mean it every day driving or making the setup?Originally Posted by Norbie

I mean danger when cutting/welding the tank. Empty fuel tanks are notoriously dangerous.
At this point it's looking like I might need a small custom-made surge tank to fit in the engine bay. I was hoping to find an easier way but hey, I should know by now that these things can never be easy.

remove spare tyre
mount surge tank in wheel bin
get several tins of tyre inflator or a space-saver rim?
It would have to be a pretty small (short) tank to fit in there, in which case I might as well put it in the engine bay.

Norbie,
I have just been looking at your fuel reg location. I assume you haven't mounted it yet as i know i couldn't mount mine (i have the same rail and reg) in that position.
On the other idea of cutting the fuel tank for a surge tank, you'll have to use a plasma cutter as using a grinder leaves metal flakes inside the tank when you cut. I know norbie wouldn't do that anyway.

Nah the photo was for display purposes only, the regulator hasn't been mounted yet. It will probably get bolted to the firewall somewhere.
Cutting the fuel tank is not on the cards at all, that's the whole reason I got a surge tank! The existing internal Walbro will act as a lift pump and another 2 external Walbro pumps will feed off the surge tank and into the rail. It's going to be a noisy bugger with all those pumps buzzing away, like some sort of big angry mosquito.![]()

norbie, thought about a rubber fuel tank instead?
You mean a fuel cell? That's a bit extreme for my purposes.![]()
