yep the crappy hg was gone in a few places, i had the head checked and grinded and was told the block would be ok with a light sand.. used a mhg when i put it back together..

They'd/you'd have had to seriously fuck something up for a MHG not to seal first start, either way it sounds like an engine out repair. I'd definitely be stripping the block and having it pressure tested before whacking it back together again. Sounds like something is cracked to me

i thought a mhg would seal worse than a normal one if the block was not 100% true because there would be less give?

True, but you wouldnt expect even an unprepared head/block to poo itself after 10 minutes of just idling. No head gasket at all should last longer than that!

Is it possible the head was cracked during stud tensioning? Did you follow the procedure and torque specs 100%?

Before you start pulling it apart do comp test and leak down tests.

Water coming out of the exhaust and moisture under the oil cap can be just condensation while its cold. As for it running poorly; are you sure the timing is set correct? was the dissy and timing belt put on correctly?

Not having a go, just asking You'd be surprised the number of gumbies who just tighten 1 stud at a time up to the full torque spec

YOu shoulda flushed it all properly man...that shouldnt cause it to crack or anything, but it sure might look like it's broken.

    Clean it out properly

Danny - when it blew the first time how badly did it blow? Have you got a cat/muffler full of water? That could explain both rough idle, and steam out the exhaust... It would take some time to evap a full muffler of water out...

sorry to hear another gt4 causing headaches.
check all the basics first, and agreed, a leak down test would be a good start

    cheers
