Circuit open relay in place?
Hey guys, did a bit of a marathon with a mate over the weekend aimed at getting the 1G in the 28 running. Im at work today, still a bit hungover, a tired twitch in my red sore eyes and to make things worse we didn't get it to run.
Fiddly things took a while so we ended up dodgy fitting a lot of stuff in order to make it run. Ie, intercooer is sort of a side /top mount? Just using the high pressure pump (wired straight to 12v), filled the surge manually. Heater hoses just looped etc. Its ugly but theoretically should work.
Turns over well, has power to the igniter. We couldn't find a spark. Injectors have got power, but only one constant 12v. Its at this stage we got too tired/drunk.
Its possibly one of those things that is impossible to diagnose without going through wiring, i thought i would ask anyway.
In theory, no sensors or units should be buggered, just more likely shitty wiring/connections. It ran well in the halfcut.
Cheers.

Circuit open relay in place?

its an ugly ignition system to say the least.
GA23(never finished-now with cracked block) JZX83 (Tyre eater) 3sgte AE86. by now i should know better.
Curcuit opening relay is in place, i assume its opening as there is power to the ignitor? Ill check it though. I did notice that there was spark/power from the HT lead from the ignitor to the dizzy, but no spark. I suppose ill check some connections bw ecu and varios relays etc. Injectors get 12v, but no pulse signal. The fuel pump is not wired up through the relay yet. How do you check continuity b/w ecu and dizzy for example when they are far away from each other? Its probably obvious but i cant even keep my eyes open at this stage. Im not cut out for these all-nighters!
Any other help would be great.

have you got a meter?

have you fed the coil +12v from the battery?
this is something I neglected when wiring mine up ... same dodgy way!
but yeah the is a T shaped plug off the coil which is the +12v feed ... i had power everywhere else but no spark.

Ill check the power to the coil again. Yep, i do have a multimeter and test lamp. Just wondering cos of the long distance, the physical act of testing the wires from end to end seems unlikely?

Is this the "t shaped plug" for the coil you can see here?
Maybe ill keep the intercooler like this??![]()

first make sure you got nothing unexplained floating in space( Oh, i needed to hook that up did I? moments suck :O) also make sure eveything which wants power is gettin power. if thats all good then start with test continuity between dizzy and coil-(youll need to pull cap of dizzy and metal base plate off the coil) and go from reluctor sensors to the inputs of the coil.
If its still not ok, curse the universe and do more continuity checks between dizzy/ecu.
fingers crossed but these things can be tempremental.

Thomas, the most common cause of failure to start, on these type of conversions, is. Ignition power source.
At your ignition switch, check power to ignition system when the key is turned to the on position. and then check power to the ignition system when the key is turned to start. Just drop the starter solenoid wire off at this point, to stop rotating the engine unnecessarily.
My reasoning here, is that the ignition is actually powered off the 2 positions at the key. If you have only hooked up 1 wire to the ignition key you will never get a start.
Cheers Chuck.

Thanks Chuck, ill get on to that one. One connection i wasn't 100% sure with when connecting up was the ST2 connection from the ga70 loom. should that have power when ignition is on, or when the key is turned to start?
Ill get back to it when i have a chance.

ST2 should be fed off ST1 on ya key barrel.

Bloody battery wont take charge now! Theres a lesson, dont buy a good battery for a car that is going to be a garage hog for a while. All that sitting round has killed the bugger. I have found that the circuit opening relay wasn't earthed well enough. I hope that will help my cause. Cheers guys.
