Well, if I can get the ones you mention, that's cool. The only thing I'm not too keen on is the re drilling of the holes. Is it possible to get blanks of the slotted DBA743? So I won't have the extra unused holes?Originally Posted by The Witzl

You're probably going to have more luck getting RDA discs undrilled, DBA have discontinued a lot of their range - you can't even get AW11 front discs from DBA anymore. I had to buy RDA, which is a shame as they are Chinese rotors; rather than DBA which are made in Australia.

I know on my car whichrun the superstrut, takai has used ST185 GT-4 Rotors machined down to suit. Also has to be re-drilled to suit.
Damn Toyota and it's bloody imports![]()
All I want is standard rotors for an AE101 Levin (non-superstrut), and I cant even seem to find them!
I've pulled of the original ones and measured them...
Diameter - 258mm
Height - 48mm
Thickness - 18mm
Centre - 55mm
which doesn't line up with any of the domestic crap.
I want to avoid changing hubs/calipers, and want to limit the machining to the inner hole or outer diameter.
Has anyone come across a solution yet?
I may end up just dropping it to Midas or something, hopefully get someone who thinks it's a corolla to quote a normal price for new rotors, and then make them deal with the pain
Cheers,
Timbo
Edit: I can't fit 22mm thick rotors into these calipers![]()
dba do a set trust me i got some but they have to alter a set of st185 celica brakes from memory as they are 54mm centre hole and 24mm thick
So they are willing to do a custom set? I thought they give you what they've got and it'd be up to you to mod it.
I'll see what they say.
Thanks,
Timbo

...... butt scratcher?!
Machining the thickness of a disc down by 7mm is not really what I want to do. There's a reason why discs have a "minimum" thickness to indicate maximum wear... and 7mm is much more than the allowable maximum wear (2mm) on those discs.
I'm happy to have the disc machined down in diameter, and the centre hole enlargened... but I'm hoping to find a 18mm disc to start with.
Is there any reason a locating ring, like what's used with rims, can't be used with the brake disc to reduce the diameter from 55mm to 54mm?
Depends on which application you're talking about.
My situation needs a 55mm hole, but regardless of centre hole size, there is nothing in 18mm thickness, with the correct hat height.![]()
For my stock AE101 superstrut setup, I was thinking of using Corolla Sportivo ZZE123 front rotors and space them out by 1.5mm with washers behind them on the wheel studs, as the hats are 1.5mm too tall.
Reckon it could work?
Man, I was actually just thinking that on the way to work.
I seem to recall a disc of a Paseo or something that was 3mm smaller in diameter, but the right size center and either 18 or 20mm. Just was a bit to short of a hat, so I wanted to have a look and see if washers could space out the calipers.
I'll have a looksee.
Thanks Man!
Timbo... yeah you've got an issue there champ. That doesnt sound like ANYTHING normal.
You SURE they are 18mm thick?
There should be a number stamped on the calipers that indicate the disc thickness they are meant for.
I was pretty certain that the AE101 non-superstrut uses the same disc as the series 2 AE92 SX. In fact, i have fitted these AE101 non-superstrut calipers to Finney's AE92 SX... and then bought them from him and they are now fitted to my car. I just had to buy DBA708 discs to match.
DBA708
Diameter = 258mm
Thickness = 22mm
Hat Height = 48mm
Centre Hole = 54mm
Methinks you have measured incorrectly.
...... butt scratcher?!
Thanks for the info Karl... i'll double check.
I measured the discs with a vernier and got about 17.5mm, and the gap between the caliper edges (not the pads) is spot on 22mm... i'd be nervous to even use 20mm rotors in there.
I'll have a look for a number stamped on the caliper, but I think there must be a couple of AE101 Levin non-superstrut brakes.
I'll take some piccies...
Cheers Timbo
