was thinking compared to twin spots with std vented discs ?
obviously not as good going by the info.![]()
with cutting out the spacer plate on the twin piston sumitomo(RT132), u need an extra set of seals (not a big issue) and u have to drill the bolt holes, drill the fluid channels and also recess the fluid channel to take the seals.
then find longer bolts longer pins and longer springs which all can be stolen off a landcruiser/hilux 4 piston caliper. by then u may as well put on the 4 piston jobbies

nath vented discs from what? cause the sumitomo twin piston caliper only came with solid 266mm disc

just some more updates, you have to mount the struts with the caliper at the front of the car so the brake lines dont kink, this is counter to how the struts were pulled off the car but its not an issue.
also i found the brake lines from the XT130 dont fit properly, the line that goes from caliper to strut is too short
the KE35 lines will fit fine tho
some more pics of them mounted soon
also confirmed 100% that pad area on disc is infact 100%

I see why this cant be used on an ae86/ae71/ke70/t18/raXX models. I might do it on my sprinter to ditch the welded caliper mount I am using now
Some questions regarding this upgrade.
A mate and I are putting together something similar, but have found that the mx 62 discs are 18mm thick, the ra60 discs are 20mm thick - This makes for a tight squeeze.
The mx73 however has a 22mm disc - Is it possible you are using these instead? Furthermore can anyone confirm if the 62 and 73 calipers are the same? Or have the same bolt spacing?
Why is the xt130 hub used? Aren't they the same hub hub as the ra60 anyway?
Assumption is the mother of all f**kups...
XT130 hub is used not for the hub but for the XT130 strut. try putting in a RA60 strut into a old celica or corolla and you get camber problems.
the discs fit into the calipers no problems i have done about 1000km's on them with no troubles, and Chucklandwher has most likely done many more trouble free kms on them
i am definitely using the RA60 discs.
the MX62 caliper is used as it has the same bolt spacing as the XT130 strut, the MX73 caliper from what i am aware is the same as RA60 but has a different bolt spacing to the XT130 strut

We tried at a wrecker the following combo -
xt130 strut, ra60 disc and hub, mx 62 caliper and found that with the pads in, we could not get the caliper over the disc.
Assumption is the mother of all f**kups...
compare hub heights of the RA60 and XT130 hub maybe they are different
also dont forget you still have to space the caliper off the strut a few MM

Yeah, that's not a problem - We just couldnt get the freakin things on there.

thats weird cause im running new discs and new pads which would mean everything is at its maximum thickness and i have no trouble

Shelldrake, did you push the piston back into the calliper all the way??
Well done on the writeup +rep, looks like what I should do for my RA28... nice and cheap, and the engineer shouldnt have any troubles passing it when I go for turbo (plus I already have XT130 struts with new inserts and wheel bearings)

I tried, but maybe a disc brake speader is required on this little puppy.![]()
