Hm, ok, so you really have no idea what your getting unit pulling off the sump.
    Thats annoying.

As i stated before, all engines with the metal vacuum pipes around the front of the manifold are pre '94 (Oct '94 for Celsior engines) and thus will be 10:1 and the original type rods

Thats the easiest test. (billet alloy is 90-94 @ 10.0:1)
Apart from that there is no CSI under the intake manifold (on the later model ones), but thats not easy to find.

    90-94 = 10.0:1
    95-97 = 10.4:1
    98+ = 10.5:1 (and VVTi)
i just need to clarify something, i have seen all of one 1uz fuel rail in my life and it was definitely and extruded alloy rail with bits machined out of it to fit into the various mounts and such, is this what you mean by billet? because it was not cast. i just want to make sure im looking at the right thing.
    cheers,
    sheepers

All shiny and looks machined = billet.

Looks like the outside of the block = cast.

ummmm, thats not helping me much.
the rail i saw was machined in places but obviously extruded in its largest form, linear that is.
i dont know anything about 1uz's but i know the difference between cast and billet, and i just want to make sure were all smoking the same shit, metaphorically of corse....
i suppose it doesn't really matter at the end of the day. i spoke to the "expert" that i am buying my engine package off the other day and he said "every 1uz ive ever seen has looked like that" meaning that he has never had a higher compression motor through his workshop, which doesn't say much for the level of imported engines we are getting in new zealand.
    thanks for your help,
    sheepers.

Big shiny billet rails you can see your face in after 10secs polish with autosol

Can't find any pics online of a late model rail.
Its amazing how hard it is to find one!
