Well then, don't anyone else buy these for a 1j!

Exact same issue as Slim except a tiny bit more inadequate clearance!

They look like they are a 'self clearancing' design

But in all honesty, if you linish then bolts down look like will clear OK?

Yes that would work, but last time I checked people don't buy products with a specific description only to have to modify them to do what it claims it does.

I have complained to the seller, hopefully I get some shorter screws soon. Also, chopping them shorter myself means I have to go buy some more tools even after I have already bought a lot recently just to get these on in the first place.

OMFG another one! That is really strange. It looks like it should have fit with no problems. Does the backing plate on your engine have the shallow headed bolts? If your gear hits the bolts then my one must be barely clearing them.

Yep they must be the short types, the bolt heads and the screws have munched about ~0.5mm out of eachother.

can you send me or post a pic up of the bolts holding the backing plate to the head?

ive fitted the exact same cam gears to a number of 1jz's before and never once had a problem. provided the bolts in the backing plate havn't been replaced by a noob.

but im a bit more thorough than most and make sure the engine rotates over 3 times before starting it.

    cheers

Hi all, as you may be aware some 1JZ owners have had issues with Os Giken cam gears fouling on the bolt heads that secure the backing pate onto the head.

We have confirmed that OS Giken have fitted the incorrect bolts to these cam gears which is causing the fouling. This is not an issue if you have a 2JZ engine.

If you have purchased OS Giken cam gears from us at Otomoto Pty Ltd or on Ebay through our sister company, Up Garage Pty Ltd please contact me so i can arrange to replace the cam gears with new ones with the correct size bolts.

Both Os Giken and Otomoto appologise for any inconvenience.

    Regards,

I thought i'd add that my intitial statement regarding the state of my battery has been proven wrong. I initially thought the battery was totally fkd because whilst the car would run with it after being jump started, it wouldn't start again after being switched off.

I knew my alternator and electrics were fine so I assumed the battery was unchargable. On the recommendation of the Autobarn guy I took it to a battery shop and they put it on their special charger overnight and hey presto it's all better (they did it for free too).

Their testing rig showed a strong output of 12.9v and over 700CCA the day after it had been charged. It's been back in my car for a couple of weeks and working perfectly.

digging a thread for the past.

So did we confirm that this type of greddy gear (with dished front and stepped back) will fit 2jz??

I think ive got 1x 1jz gear and 1x 2jz gear. Both the offset is the sale between the two where they bolt onto the cam but wasn't sure about clearance.

I can't confirm 100% but if you look at the box in the first pic, it says "2J". I think the 1J and 2J pulleys are the same.

The reason the the one pictured did not fit was because some dunce had put the wrong part in the box and there's no identifying marks on the actual cam pulley. The box was right, the pulley was wrong.
