Depth of the rear side is 14mm.
My guess is that the centre and outsides are used on multiple engines, and they just mix and match the outers and centres for max compatability.
Although a wee sticker with a part number identifing the engine the assembly suits would be smart![]()

Notice how the recess is on the front instead of the back. Also, the dimension i indicated in this pic is now almost nothing.
Bob (Autobarn guy) ordered it with the same part number that was on the box of the one i was given. When it arrived it had 1J on the box instead of 2J like it did before... and the gear inside was different. The thing is that it was the same part number. Who the F knows what is going on. All i know is that this new gear looks to be the correct one.![]()

Thanks to all that posted advice and suggestions. I think i've got it sorted now.
I wouldn't shy away from ordering a GReddy gear. Just be sure to check that the one you're given looks like the one i now have and not like the one i used to have.
BTW... If anyone is planning on buying a timing belt tensioner from Toyota i'd suggest to shop around. The one that Toyota supplied me was made by NTN. So i'm sure that other places would be able to get them in and potentially sell them cheaper. I paid $129 at Toyota at trade price. Normal price is about $145. Bloody expensive little bastard.![]()

my TBT (arm and bearing) was $95 trade from Prosser Toyota (W.A).
CBC bearings had an alternative for around $130.
JZA70|R / 12.45 @ 111 mph.

Back at the start of '07 before the Toyota Nationals I had my timing belt tensioner replaced. I had the covers removed to be paintd and the belt was slack as a doll bludger, and had jumped a tooth. What they replaced it with, I'm not sure but they said something about machining the back of the tensioner, and it wouldn't happen again.
As far as the cam gear is concerned, it's not GReaddy that has had it's reputation damaged, its Autobarn. I was originally planning to buy the Titan Cam Gear if someone could confirm that a 2JZ gear fitted a 1JZ ( only found 2JZ gears advertised with them) or a Jun gear but if a Fiddanza is a replica and it is a lot cheaper, I might g)et a Fidanza instead (but not through Autobarn).

In Autobarn's defence. Once the problem was brought to their attention they moved fairly quickly to resolve it. It was a mistake... mistakes happen. I'm was pissed off because i've had a lot of my time wasted but it doesn't seem like an issue that would happen often. For it to happen again there has to be a situation where two cam gear are taken out of their respective boxes and switched around. Can't see that being a regular occurrance.
The bald guy with a moustache (Bob) at Autobarn Moorabbin was very understanding, helpful and did well to sort out the situation and prevent me from getting more angry.

My post came accross a bit hash I think. It's the kind of thing that can hurt a reputation, but how the respond to the mistake can fix their rep better then it was and as you said they've been really good and so improved their rep instead of damaging it.

Fidanza 2jz cam gear will fit a 1J if thats what your asking. I have two on there atm all good.
NOT in Autobarns defense, I had the same problem when I ordered in a set fo pads for my skyline 4 pots. they ordered in the non 4 pot pads for a skyline. App same number etc just the wrong product. Again a return for a miss ordered in product that they fobbed off onto me as the original ordered in product. So yeah Morrabin fucked up again. If you have to deal with Autobarn, Doncaster is the way to go. Thats the only store owned by the main company (non franchise) and they have heaps and are willing to help even more then Morrabin believe it or not.

Just thought i should say that i fitted the GReddy gear on Sunday and it went on with no troubles whatsoever. Looks "super trick" too.
The only problem now is that my super expensive Optima battery is now completely cactus after my car was left for two weeks with the passenger door not fully closed. *sigh*![]()

I installed my gears today, it only took about 30 minutes thanks to the writeup.. however there's something I'm unsure about...
When I lined the standard gears up with the marking, the mark on the balancer sat on 5. When I had installed the gears and they were lined up properly, it now sits on 12.
I've got no idea about timing adjustments, what have I done wrong? I used a white marker to mark the two top positions of the cam gears on the belt before I removed it, so it shouldnt have moved really. Will I have to take the belt back off the gears and adjust the balancer/timing to 0 (or back to 5??) and put them back on? Is that the proper way to adjust it? I don't understand how it has moved 7 degrees or whatever. I havn't started the engine yet or anything though.. won't be running for a while anyway.
EDIT: Nevermind.. seems like the marking was slightly off.
