There is no reason you can't use factory ECU with 1UZ, anyone who tells you otherwise is purely a bonehead... Likewise the LS1, people will tell you it's too hard, but bypassing the security system is dead easy. UZ shouldn't be too hard to fit, but Chev is smaller. Chev has a greater choice of gearbox options. Chev has very easy bolt on power upgrades, purely limited by how much you want to spend, as well as a pretty versatile factory ECU - good for keeping engineers happy... UZ is a much better build engine, and much smoother in operation, but the Chev sounds better. The Chev is rough and lumpy, and only gets much worse as you go bigger in the cam. UZ is a luxury car engine, Chev is an old school muscle car engine that has been somehow polished up to pass emissions to allow continued production. People will tell you you're a dickhead to fit one or the other, but ultimately you decide - would you prefer a better built, smoother and somewhat sweet engine (UZ), or one that might be easier to fit, and easily able to make more power because of sheer size (Chev)

It'll depend mainly on what you want to achieve, in the long term, from this conversion...

Track Car or Daily driver: 1UZ-FE hands down... The weight distribution would be far better than the 1 and 2JZ, and the weight difference would be beneficial also...

    Strip Car: 1 or 2JZ-GTE

They're all going to provide good amounts of power, strength, and reliabilty... As I said, it all comes down to what you want to achieve in the long term, I realise for now that it will be a daily driver, but is that the way it will remain...

yeah i like the refinment (newer technology) of the 1ufze. and thought it is a daily now it will eventually become the second car, but still track/cruising, can't see the benefit of go fast with poor handling.

i cant see the weight of any of these engines still being good for handling, they are all 200kg+.
the weight diff and where its located wont make that big a diffrence with a 1uz coz if he goes turbo then he would have to put them out the front as there wont be room on the side then think of the weight of manis+dumps+coolers.
if doing a drag car do any of the above but if you want it to handle i would go with an S or RZ series as there will be alot less weight with these.
    cheers
