if the timing is way out, are you sure the outer section of the timing pulley hasnt slipping giving a wack reading?

Punctuation is the difference between 'I helped my Uncle Jack off his horse' and 'I helped my uncle jack off his horse.'
Those codes are for the auto tranny.

That was one of my ideas, but we checked that by putting a screwdriver down the sprakplug hole, and when we turned the engine by hand it reached its highest point at 0 degrees as indicated by the balancer.Originally Posted by love ke70
This really has me stumped, it's got all the classic symptoms of an engine with the distributor out by a few notches, but when there's no distributor what do you do??

No chance, they come out of seperate holes and only reach their own plug!![]()
Damn, worth a try
Out of curiousity have you checked the compression?
Another thing to think about is that in the past I've had heaps of troubles starting an engine.
Threw in a brand new set of spark plugs and bam, fired first click of the key.
Although the plugs in there looked ok (even after cleaning), they were obviously a bit too fouled to start a cold engine (worked fine after I put them back in a warm engine)

what about just a buggered coilpack?
hmm yeah i'll get another set of plugs and give them a bash in the morning. I think that might be all it'll take at this stage. She sounds pretty close.
You'd have to have 3 dead for it not to start.Originally Posted by Rorge

Ok well another set of plugs tomorrow and we'll see how she goes!
Compression was 182-190 across all cyls
Oops i was slightly off
Cyl 1: 195 PSI
Cyl 2: 190 PSI
Cyl 3: 200 PSI
Cyl 4: 205 PSI
Cyl 5: 200 PSI
Cyl 6: 200 PSI
Oil Pressure: 50 PSI at cranking speed.
Do these 1jz's have different crank angle sensors or crank trigger discs???
If its like the 1UZ, then all pre 1998's are identical.
If you've def got constant spark, and constant fuel, and you have compression, then it has to be timing ?
Try a few squirts of 'start ya bastard' or similar.
Perhaps you aren't getting enough fuel ?

Is there anywhere i can view/check the chopper disc? I'm guessing maybe if i remove the CAS i can see it through the hole?
I'm about to try more spark and a bit of start ya bastard
That is some impressive compression! Mine is in the mid to high 170's!
