    Default intercooling sizing

    how does one know how big a cooler should be for there application. is it flow? or size? there must be a formula.

    hmmmm there prob is but i dont know it

    What sort of boost do you have in mind ?
    What turbo ?
    What piping size ?
    What car / how much room do you have ?
    What engine ?

    on your 23 id run a 450x300x75(core size) as its the biggest you can fit and you dont have to cut to much out to do so.

    My rule of thumb has always been, jam the biggest intercooler possible into the available space! You can never have too much cooling and the disadvantages of a large intercooler aren't worth worrying about.

    Listen to Norbie. The bigger a cooler is, the lower the internal velocity, the higher the heat sinking ability and the lower the resistance.

    As for a formula-it's not that simple-there's a bunch of variables, and it depends if you want it to scrub heat or flow well, or both. Get a fluid mechanics text book if you want to learn-but my advice is not to bother. Trust us, just jam a big one one there.

    You can fit a 500x300x76 in an ra23, but doing the plumbing is fun(ultra tight angles)
    GA23(never finished-now with cracked block ) JZX83 (Tyre eater) 3sgte AE86. by now i should know better.
