use a ba disc and r33 gtst calipers and it bolts straight on, big pad 4pots and a mass of aftermarket pads why do it any other way.job done for 1k with new quality stuff or $400 using S/H stuff, how can you go wrong.
Has anyone done this? The calipers are hell cheap and BIG pad area so woud go well with the BA falcon disc. I thought someone on here had done it but can't recall who. Any ideas anybody or how difficult this would be. I know the cressi caliper bolt spacing is 100mm but don't know the Holden spacing. Thanks for any help.

I can't find seconhand R33 calipers for less than $300 then rebuild kit etc whereas I can get as new VZ calipers for $100 and the pads in the commo ones are bigger
Linden is more talking about the fact that the $200 you save on calipers (which you should rebuild whenever you get new ones anyway) will be spent on further mods getting it to fit.
added to the fact that other problems may arise as its not as well documented as the R33 conversion.
being a pioneer for an upgrade is always an expensive task.
that said, it would be good if you picked the calipers up and had a go, as, if it turned out cheaper, you could do up a guide and save a whole lot of people a whole lot of money.

The BA/R33 combo is a no-brainer because it's basically bolt-up with a Cressida. The Commodore calipers may be cheaper but you'll almost certainly need custom brackets to fit them which will quickly erode any initial savings, not to mention the extra hassle.
EDIT: beaten to it.![]()

and the fact that the sumitomo's will give far superoir braking performance, how many ppl do you hear complain about fade on commy/falcons.
the 4pots WILL make it stop like you just hit a tree, and WILL do it repeatedly as far as the pbr 2pots sliders go they would be shite in comparison unless you use a 330mm kit and then you will be up for twice the cost. you have to think about teh weight of a cressida then factor in a good upgrade not an average one.
the higher specc'ed commies like the granges/HSV's might have something worth upgrading to, but any regular run-of-the-mill commodore will basically be the same as your cressida brakes.
the cressida and commo will weigh similar (very big ish, but still) and brake performance will be the same, as they're designed to just be run-arounds.
the R33 is a performance car, so the brakes are better suited for a performance upgrades.
IMO a better way to spend your money than on a VZ caliper conversion, would be the R33 kit, if your still not keen on spending that much money, upgrade your rotors to slotted ones (dunno about your chances of finding some for the cressy) and better brake pads.
maybe find a more open style of wheel to aid in cooling. Alot of people complain about the performance of MA70 brakes, whereas mine are phenominal (unless your constantly on them for LONG periods) and i think its due to the fact that my wheels are more open than theirs, more air gets to the brakes, so they run cooler.

Yeah the only other thing i was thiking was the extra offset required for the front wheels on a vressida and there isn't much to choose from when you have to factor in a hi disc wheel to boot. Anyway I will have to stick with my 300zx wheels and hunt for some calipers they are not as cheap as they used to be. The thing is someone on here has done it on a lexus V8 cressy and I have seen pics but no writeup but I can't remember who it was as it was referred to another site and the car was sold when it was finished. Anyway thanks for the replies.
you might be talking about Peewee a.k.a CrUZida.
his was an mx73 though, sounds like the car your referring to though, hes selling it, hasnt sold it though.
Elmo.
the 12mm offset in disc between ba and r33 should make it alot easier and its not hard to find rims to suit at all.
The v8 cressida on this forum has VT calipers. That's the one with the 1uz engine and the supercharger.
BTW VT calipers are real spongy since the Aluminium body has too much flex.
Those calipers were used on Ford explorers and then changed to cast iron design due to the flex problem.
R33 CALIPERS ARE ONLY 10 YEARS OLD....generally wouldnt need a rebuild anyway,
r33/ba falcoon, is such a sweet combo.....why go for the $2 commo setup then kick yourself after?
we didnt rebuild out r33 calipers, they looked good as new, and had 90% pad left which we also used,
my copnvesion cost a total $390, thats using DBA gold cross drilled and slotted rotors,
picked up the calipers cheap also!

I run the Commo PBR callipars and 330mm rotors on my Crown and don't have a problem with brakes, however I haven't been to the track yet.
you could do some measuring and see how you go
but then again my whoe car s custom so, it pay off to just got the 33 combo

Yeah I think I will just go for the R33 calipers, I like the big pad area and price on the commo ones but everyone seems to think it is much easier for R33/BA setup. Does anyone have any R33 calipers at a reasonable price????
