    Default oil return line angle

howdy does it matter what angle the oil return line is at. Does it have to point straight down or is it possible to point at a 45 degree angle?

Will the pressure of the oil coming in make any different to the speed it comes out?

    thanks

IMO you'll never get a straight down return anyways. nothing wrong with a 45 degree oil return at all. some are even less than that.

the oil feed should be restricted to ~1.5mm bush type turbo and by memory 0.8mm bb type turbo, so there isnt a hole heap of pressure. the oil out the return is frothy and doesnt really flow well, hence it needing to be at least 5/8 in size so it can make it's way back to the sump easily.

sorry, i've found when turboing a 4age/ze that a oil restictor is needed to stop to much oil been forced into the housing doobie. i made my own restrictor by filing the fitting that goes into the turbo oil feed hole with solder and drilling a 1.5mm hole in it.

ah crap didn't know anything about this, when you made the restrictor did you put it right next to the turbo entry?

would i need a 1.5 mm hole aswell? mine is non BB?

You didn't fully read that thread Wilbo posted earlier. There's a link in there with a great article on this subject of oil feed into a turbo.

yeah got all that info, all is good now i just need to know at what max degree can the oil return line be at.

If my housing entry is at a fully 90 degree then my oil return pipe is at 90 degree so my entry housing will be pointing to the bonnet if the exit pipe is pointing down

it the turbo is clocked so the oil feed is on top, the oil return line facing down... what more do you want? what max degree are you trying to find out? are you trying to lay the housing over so it's (oil feed/return) is not vertical?
put your feed on, plumb the return into the sump and get boosting!

no just wondering what angle i can have the return line because if it is facing down them i think the entry housing will be hitting the bonnet when the intercooler piping is on so i'm fooked that way

so if have it on a 90 degree angle the entry housing will be perfect but i don't know if you can have the oil return pipe on a 90 degree angle because the oil might not return to the sump fast enough.

p.s. the quicker i get this answered the faster i can get boosting
