Rollin's Most recent acts of toolism as edited by me were adding the ever so whitty remark of "Go and buy a Charade" This sort of behaviour is not appropriate but not enough to get you banned unless it was a repeat offender.

Being Banned form here takes some effort. If you consistantly a tool you will be banned
If you attack a moderator for doing their job (Not a difference of opinion in a car related discussion ) you will be banned
If you advertise something you don't intend to supply you wil be banned (And your details passed on to Law Enforcement)
If you repeatedly post incorrect info in the Tech section you may be banned.

We all have moments of anger/emotion and stupidity, we all make mistakes. Sometimes lessons are hard learnt with a big slap of Neg Rep but banning generally takes more than 1 or 2 mistakes. On the whole being banned takes some effort. The Rep system is a peer driven system. You can upset your peers without braking the forum rules and hence be here, not banned and have negative Rep.

As moderators we are all aware of the regular internet trolls and wookies and when appropriate they too will be banned. People will never get banned for a personal dislike or disagrement.

I'm all for giving someone a slap if they deserve it, but if everyone does that, it's a bit hard to ever recover.

Maybe we need a max negative rep figure? This would limit the effect of "gang neg-rep" that can happen for one stupid post.

if you dont post, it will most likely stay as it is now, it wont go down because their wont be posts for you to be - Rep on,
as mentioned, start an informative members ride section about your car, include lots of pics, details and info, future plans, dyno graphs and every time u update post about it,
other ideas could include, looking over the tech section and if you have knowledge on a subject try and answers peoples questions and help them,
i remember a guy who was only into car audio made a huge car audio thread and gained a fair amount of rep.
also a witty comment here and their may induce more rep for yourself, say in the Non car section, Jokes thread ?

i think the entire rep system has too much emphasis about it, and needs alot of work to work properly, as Rod and many people will point out, im a troll and have nothing useful to add, yet look at my rep.

i get pos repped simply for people agreeing with my opinion, and on the rare occasion where i help them out.

quite a clear indicator that it all needs work, but, as always, nothing perfect, that much thought shouldnt be put to it anyway, if this post is a clear indiactor of anything, its that rep doesnt represent much at all.

Contribute to the forums pretty much...

If you have a post out there that is useful and informative, other user's may +rep you.

agreed, REP IS NOTHING< KNOWLEDGE IS EVERYTHING. that was some ones once,

and its so true but i think the intention of the rep thing was to get people to contribute to the forums so they can use the luxury of classifies and also with big rep people tend to listen more to you,

but go over the rep with a fine tooth comb and you will see all the post whores have massic rep,

nah its alright dude, i wholeheartedly agree, i know my rep should be at most about 200 if it was completely based on technical knowledge, even less because of the assumtions and consequent cock-ups by the info being wrong.

at the end of the day, if you post more, you have more chance of getting repped, whether it be pos or neg, im unfortunate in that ive developed a repuation for being argumentative and stubborn, and, regardless of how much i try, people will think of me as so.

even so, someone must agree with me, or otherwise i wouldnt have this high rep, even if it isnt deserved.(through technical knowledge)

just out of curiosity as well

who's got the lowest rep? i vote southozet.. he's got -189 to date...

erm... also, wouldn't it be a good suggestion in saying -200 rep and the person should be banned? i mean it takes a lot of consistently being a tool to get that much neg??

just remember, "rep" is "reputation", and this is a technical forum....

if you have a good reputation, it will be (vaguely) reflected in your reputation points.
if you have a really bad reputation, it will be (vaguely) reflected in your reputation points.

non-car discussion makes a big difference to the validity of rep and i think generally rep should be removed from that section. then again, some people deserve rep from what they have posted there. then again, there is still a lot of post-whoring going on.....

Would be interesting to remove the rep from the Non-car and make it retrospective, and see where people are when the dust settles.

I think that's actually a pretty good idea Simon. I know mine is somewhat inflated by the Non-car discussion rep.

Yes, I think rep should be removed from the NCD area. But, as OC says, some posts are useful... like the photography ones, camera and PC stuff. Someone usually helps out someone else with some good info. It may not be car related, but it is worthy info. Of course, the vast bulk of it is rubbish and I too have had my rep boosted with some of my inane posts.

IMO i believe this should be done but instead of removing rep completely, have it so only 1/4 of the rep that could be given/taken is applied (for the ppl that have helped others ) in order to keep the rep system fair.

there are lots of users here with massive rep that from what ive seen in there posts would have a hard time changing the oil in there car.(waiting for a mass neg repping on that comment).

    cheers
