oh, and a mate of mine is a fitter/machinist/turner and has his own engine building machines in his back shed... so ill be able to do this bugger on the cheap without quality compromise... cost of parts, beers for after, and crank work pretty much.

Oh, and the 22RE injectors are the same as 18RG injectors. They both run pretty much the same setup from factory.

Remember that terms like "undersquare" and "oversquare" are merely descriptive.
Just so we're all clear, with an 89mm stroke, your 22R will be reaching your 4000 ft/min, industry accepted, maximum average piston speed at 7000 rpm. Compare this to 2JZ (85mm stroke - 7300), 1JZ (71.5mm stroke - 8500), 3K (66mm stroke - 9300).....see where I'm going with this?
Whilst an engine with a bore of 110mm and a stroke of 100mm is still undersquare, "revvy" isn't a term I would use to describe it (think Ford 250 with its 4500 redline.....). Many, many other factors will determine an engine's responsiveness, but intrinsic to this is the donk's stroke.
just to carify the 22R/22RE is 92mm x 89mm.![]()
get ahold of me and lets talk. I can tell you everything you need to know about getting desent power out of these engines.
I have some factory 22RTE bits if your interested. They came with 140hp/175ftlbs but the electronics can handle 200hp easy with the proper corresponding mods.
The versions you have available might not be the same that we had from year to year but if I know a few details I can help you on your way. Stefan(from Taz) can help us out there.
200hp is very easy out of these mills and you can help them rev much better and flow better as well. The heads aren't great from the factory but porting works wonders. There is a lot of metal that can be removed and the ports reshaped slightly.
Currently mine is built to handle 7500rpms all day, everyday and 400+hp. The bottem end is identical to some that have been dyno'd to over 390hp rwhp with 26psi. Granted these type were not cheap to build.
btw i have a machine shop mate that spins his N/A 20/22R hybrid to 9200rpms in a circle track mini-stock car =P

I think that when someone asks a question we need to look more at the HOW and not the WHY so much. People are different.

I just finished doing a complete rebuild with a 22RE for my RA65 last week witch is on this site under Steelo’s ride in the forum members rides. I was told all you need to change to get that motor to rev +10000 is replace the rods and head. I didn’t go nuts on mine but have been thinking about doing another one sometime in the future.
