    just as a note....
the 100kw 16V also only appeared in fwd/awd. Meaning the engine was transversly located. In a rwd application(longitudenal layout) the flow dynamics are completely different... for instance long high "G" load sweepers or corners to the right will not pool the oil at the back of the head....... in a rwd application as opposed to a fwd, or awd application

still, the drain is at the back of the head, on the drivers side... might still have a problem. Hopefully the catch can will grab most of it

Re the fwd -> rwd, a number of the clubman guys running 20Vs in rwd setup use an external drain from the back (in rwd) of the head due to pooling too.

Not in the 20v motors (at least not in the silvertop I've got).

Just as a follow up, catch can is catching most of it (hoping its not blow by :s ) still a bit of oil making it back to the intake.
Before i only ever emptied the can once, now it fills the can to about 1/4 after sustained high RPM ie circuit, drifting...

might be an idea to get/make a catch can that has a drain fitting in the base of it, which you could connect to the fitting that you have on the block, so the catch can empties itself back into the sump?

ah yep, i see now, more oil would be forced out of that particular fitting on the block than what could be drained back into it from a catch can?

i did read that last night, but i guess it didnt register lol, was late

You could build a catch can that drains back to the sump via the block, provided that you fitted it with a valve so that it was inoperative while the car was running.

Some ideas include a one way valve, based on either a diaphragm or a poppet, a manual tap or a solenoid so that it's only open when the ignition is not on.

I could... or just empty it now and again i'm not too fussed about it, if the head has to come off again in the future, might just tap a fitting in.

I would be very tempted to make a breather plug for that big hole. Fill the inside of the plug with a coarse mesh aka metal kitchen scourer. The oil will tend to accumulate on the mesh, then drain back into the block. The the vapour will still cary some oil to the catch can, but not as much as running with a full flow empty pipe.

Have a look at the fugly black box on the side of a 3T-GTE. Performs the same function as a catch can, and almost in the exact same position as the hole in the 4AG.

    cheers Chuck.

ended up tapping the head, and now after several track days, i haven't had to empty the catch can.
