need to remove the 4age from an ae82
havent really worked on east west motors before only on north south.
is it easier to remove the engine and gearbox as one?
or unbolt the motor from gearbox like you would with a north south configuration?
is there a guide anywhere i can follow for the above procedures?
cheers

1) Remove driveshafts
2) Remove wiring loom
3) Remove coolant/heater pipes
4) Remove fuel lines
5) Remove shifter linkages
6) Jack up car
7) Remove crossmember from under car
8) Hold engine/gearbox up with engine crane
9) Remove left and right engine mounts
10) Lower engine/box to the ground
There may be other bits that I've forgotten, but it's not overly difficult.

You forgot to say you have no need for putting the engine back in so.......
1/ Remove everything
2/ Remove bottom crossmember
3/ get engine crane on engine
4/ undo box mount and front block mount on the drivers side
5/ pull it out and let the shafts seperate.
fastest way
Edit: I am only telling him this because he is putting it into a north-south configuration, he has no use for the car as it is a wreck. Any other day and if it was to be put back in you would use hte obvious procedures above.
i've always taken EAST-WEST motors out the top.... however i have a fancy engine balancer on my crane, so it's easy for me to tilt the engine on angles whilst jacking it up.
Usually i just:
- remove all coolant lines and radiator
- remove exhaust manifold
- disconnect and remove engine wiring loom (unplug from cabin and pull thru firewall)
- drop gearbox and engine oil
- remove CV shafts
- disconnect gearbox selector cables, acell cable, fuel lines and all other stuff connected to engine
- hold engine in place with engine crane, and undo all engine mounts
- completely remove the engine mount from on top of the gearbox (including the mounting plate)
- now start to jack up engine, whilst progressively tilting the gearbox end downwards
- keep on jacking
- done
I've done this above method about 12 times or more now, and can have a 4AGE removed from an AE92 in under 2 hours without any assistance (other than my girlfriend getting me drinks).
Dropping the engine the other way would take more time IMO - as you also have the crossmember bolts to deal with, and then still have to separate engine from x-member once its on the ground.
...... butt scratcher?!
Whatabout 2 kg of anfo?
Two cutter chargers for the engine mounts and a lifter straight under the sump.........
should be able to get it out in under a second if you do it right![]()
GA23(never finished-now with cracked block) JZX83 (Tyre eater) 3sgte AE86. by now i should know better.
ive always taken mine out from the top..its all about the angle of the dangle..if you have air con unbolt the compressor from the bracket and remove the bracket aswell, gives you a bit more room.if your aircon has no gas in it remove the pipes near the battery as this will give you more room to swing the box around for the angle..if you want a hand let me know.
cheers guys for the advice
have done all the disconnecting today
will attempt to remove it tomoro
damo101: thanks for offering to lend a hand. ill send you a pm if i need some help
