Default Setting dizzy up - 1G-GTE

    Hey all
Performed an all out search, but I can't find exactly what I need.
The closest I could find was for a 4AC...

Anyway, I bought my GA70 with two blown turbos, and they'd already been removed.
As such the Dizzy was pulled off by the previous owner.
Now i've thrown everything back together, and I've come to the "starting" stage, but as such, my timing is not setup properly for the dizzy, so the engine won't start.

Can some one explain how to line the dizzy and cams up etc?

I noted a "groove" on the Dizzy body, but on the actual shaft I could not find a mark to line it up with. Nor do I know where to centre this point to.

    Thanks all for the help.

May sound a bit rough, but I've never had a problem with bringing #1 to the firing point, pointing the rotor at the right place on the cap and inserting the dizzy. Usually a little rotation either way will get it close enough to start, then you can use a timing light once it is running.

last time i did it(and the only time so far) i cranked the engine over by hand until no1 was at tdc, then lined the dizzy up so it was firing no1. (when your putting in the dizzy the spindle rotates a bit as the drives mesh's so you have to compensate for that)
after youve got the dizzy set at the right place just slide it in. then wind the dizzy to rully retard it and try cranking it. if it sounds like its about to fire then slowly roate the sozzy round till it catches. if it just sounds wrong, check that youve got the alignment right between the dizzy and tdc on1.
after youve got it running then you can use a timing light and it all gets much more precise.

There is a circle on the shaft to line up with that groove, like a little indent. Wind the two of them around to match up, get the engine around to #1 TDC and then push it in so the bolt is about middle of the slot. Make sure it doesn't turn around as you slide it in. Then it's a case of adjusting it so it fires.

best way to check firing setup is to take off rocker cover so you can see the cams and then with the spark plugs out turn motor over in a clockwise direction and follow the sequence - inlet valve opens and piston drops - inlet valve closses and the piston comes up to top dead centre - check that both cams are on the minimum diameter and then creep up to top dead centre as shown on the crank balancer - this is top dead firing position for number one piston put the dizzy in and double check firing order of plug leads - should fire straight up!!

That's cool and all, but I'd bet trial and error is faster, removing the IC pipes from the car to get at the rocker covers is a pain in the ass.

just saying I've seen plenty of cars where the timing marks line up and everything looks good and it still won't start. BUT the only way to really know for sure is to see that it is correct first hand!

Never had a problem with turning the engine over when you can feel compression, then sitting something on piston to see when it's at the top myself.
