bad earth somewhere other than the dash - or the headlight relays (nit sure if in kick panel or out in engine bay) are (over)due for replacement
PM wilbo666 as he might still have his manual or may know where went.
cheers,
Charles.
hey guys
the headlights on my mx62 have been playing up. When i turn on the parkers all is fine, then when i turn on the headlights the little blue (high beams) light on the dash come on but nothing more than my parkers work and it is the same deal for high beams unles i pull the switch back, then they work..
I took it to an auto sparky and he said it was the switch and he cleaned it up and all was good. That was about a year ago and now they have started doing it again so i just went to the wreckers and got a new switch.
when i put it in all was good up until i started the car, and when i did the lights started doing the same thing and even when i turn the car off the lights still dont work???????
i cant figure it out but i was wondering if any one would have ne ideas or maybe a wiring diagram that would help me out. I searched google for one but was not successful.
cheers, vinno

If high beams work, relays and earth should be ok...
Continuity of the low beam wire from the headlight to the combination switch is my bet![]()
Bring it round Vince and ill fix it for ya![]()
meh...
If the high beams work when pulled back then :
*the Light Control Relay (3 Pin) [engine bay fuse box?] is working.
*the Light Control Switch is working
*the 15A headlight fuses are OK
*the fuseable link off the battery is OK
*the blubs are OK
The fact the high beam indicator light is coming on indicates that the low beam lights are getting power, but no ground.
It looks to me like the ground is provided by the switch on the column...
It looks to me like the switch is the problem!
I'd try to confirm that the switch is the prob by turning the low beams on, and then grounding at the appropriate pin of the low beam bulb.
If the light comes on then I'd trace that wire back to the switch (unplug the connector from the bulb, use a multimeter to find the at the switch).
I'd ground the wire at the switch and see if the lights come on...if they do then you know that the switch is the problem

Only reason im suss that it isnt the switch is coz the "new" one from the wreckers is doin the same thing...
First i probed for power at the low beam, and high beam wires to the switch. Sure enough no power to the low beam.
Was in the process of running a new wire all the way to the switch for simplicity sake when i found the actual point of shite-ness - at the clip to the combination switch.
The wire changes gauge for some reason at this clip so im guessing a blown bulb or something at some point in time caused a bit too much current and a bit of melting action?
Now fixed.
meh...
cheers for that mic.. plus rep for you.. so stoked they work again and thanks for the input wilbo
vinno.
