Hey Terry, re-read your thread and there is some very useful info for me there. Like you i wanted a standard rebuild and as you know I too require new pistons and a re-bore so I'm now looking into the hybrid. It will be much more tame than yours.
I am waiting on the price of pistons and rings to suit the hybrid and how a price to bore the block for the hybrid. I am also waiting for clarification on whether i can re use my new bearing kit and what rods i can use... I was qouted around $300 - $350 for a re-bore, new pistons and rings to suit which may be the "sensible" option to take. Otherwise it may snowball into a much larger project like you've undertaken.![]()
Please keep this updated and see if you can get the thread cleaned up. It has been very useful for me reading from your experiences.
Cheers,
Pete

Terr, is this thing almost ready? i want a ride in it when it is
ta22 Green with cream vinyl roof, 2t/3t hybrid with a few go fast bits on + 5 speed.
Due to the vast amounts of rubbish in this thread I wasn't planning on updating it.
I've only just started a new job after a few months off, so I have been carefully watching what I spend. I havn't done much to the 2TG for a while. The new job pays monthly so while I have had my first pay check, I am a little cautious about blowing it all 'till I get the hang of budgeting it.
Basically all I need is a custom head gasket, head bolts, sorting the ignition computer and tuning. I estimate that $1500 should do it right.
Cheers,
Terry

Hey mate, any news on build? Im having real issues finding slight OS pistons for my buildNot that keen to go for the hybrid also have looked at these but pretty expensive for my purpose...
http://toyheadauto.com/PerformancePages/2TG_Parts.html
I used the Wiseco 89mm pistons for a 3TC, Eagle forged rods and a blueprinted 3TC crank.
Most of the parts you just linked are made by Kameari. Theyre really nice quality but the price is a little excessive...

I know this is an old thread, but I was just wondering how this all panned out? Is the engine all done, put back together and in the car? Have you had it on the dyno.
It was quiet a good read, lots of valuable information within the posts!

I somewhat lost interest. The head is sitting next to the bottom end under my staircase. Pretty much just need to bolt it together and tune it.

Hi,
But.... you're almost there!!!!
Is that all that is needed? Re-assembly?
It'll cost you more doing nothing, so you may as wel put it together and use it.
