    Default Little rep system suggestion

    Hi,

I think the rep system works fine as it is, and some ppl's helpfulness is clearly shown in their in-excess-of-1000 rep points.

But are we just going to keep getting bigger and bigger? will River be on 10,472,794,320 rep points by 2010? (probably )

I suggest maybe a scheme, (possibly similar to say... tennis rankings), where if you go off the radar for an extended period of time then u start sliding down the rep ladder.

The way tennis works (or used to anyway) is that the points you get for winning a tournament are valid for 12 months. So if you work ur ass of for 12 months and win every tournament in that time you will have a shite load of points and be number 1 in the world. But if you then decide to bask in the glory, live the high life and never play the sport again, over the year you will lose those points and go back to where you were when you started. So basically, you have to keep playing, and keep winning, to keep ur points.

I don't know if ppl would like the idea of having to keep being helpful and keep scoring rep to keep there points up, but i just thought I'd suggest it to see what ppl thought.

I guess there is really no problem with ppl having rediculously large rep points, but this might give a more recent representation of a members' reputation.

I was thinking the exact same thing lately...

In about another 12 months or so, most of the current users will be in excess of 1000 rep, and will have rep power of a minimum of +10, so everyones rep is just going to grow so rapidly that it will become pointless!

Currently, when you see a post by either river or oldcorollas you read it and take there advice because you know that they know what they're talking about because they have such a huge amount of rep!

The people that on 1000+ rep should be the people that are quite knowledgeable and are therefore deserving of it!

If we dont do something everyone will have huge rep just because they've been around a while and have made one or two good comments!

The problem is we have no control really over how the rep system works. This is part of the forum application itself.

I agree it needs to have changes and the Vbulletin guys apparently are making changes.

The most effective place to make suggestions like this would be at the Vbulletin.com forums where the developers support the product and look for suggestions for new versions.

Cheers Joshtix. I thought it might be one of those things, part of the forum "system", and toymods can either have it "as is" or not at all.

might have to check out the Vbulletin forums, never looked at them before.

maybe once a user gets to like 10,000 rep then divide everyone rep by a thousand?

perhaps everyones rep should go down by 10 per month to convince people to contribute

well theres no way of " cashing in " rep either - dunno what could be traded though - rewards are in place per level of rep gained ( like avatar etc )

i think free membership is out of the question but thats up to the board to decide

maybe discounted rate , or smaller incentive - seeing the membership already is bugger all in the first place for out of pocket expense

    how about warm and fuzzies?
rep means nothing fro club members anyway... it shouldn't change the way people *positively* contribute to the forum.. but should hopefully discourage those with negative inputs
