Same thing happened to me, it comes from the guys making the springs not compensating for the weight that's in the back of an MR2, take it back and get it replaced.
Hi All....
Just performed a Suspension upgrade on my AW11 NA MR2. I've used the KYB Shocks, Whiteline Springs and Whiteline Swaybars.
But I've got a query regarding how the car sits after the upgrade, as the back of my car looks lower than my front? I can barely fit 2 fingers between the fender and the tyre, compared to 3 fingers in the front. I've measured the high difference (From Ground to edge of Skirting) and the back is 14mm lower than the front.
Is this normal?
Thanks in advanced.....
MIKE.

chances are they would be differant for you mullet, you have the SC model correct? NA suspension shouldn't be used in a SC cause the rear is alot heavier, so they would sag alot more. I doubt the spring makers wouldn't compensate that the engine in the rear of an mr2, this sounds a little foolish.
Kassma perhaps you just got the wrong springs front and rear, perhaps you got standards at the front, lowers at the rear. or perhaps you just need to give them time to set in, double check the part numbers they gave you
this happened to me once, they gave me superlows on the front, and lows on the rear in my celica, it was shit

just a question mate, you say you used KYB shocks in your 2, do you by chance have the part numbers for front and rear, as everyone i have enquired say KYB don't make shocks for the AW11
sorry for the off track question

King springs sit the rear of the aw11 lower than the front as well.. grrr.
when i got mine back in 96 all they (king springs) could supply me with was some neoprene ring doobies to space the springs up a bit.
Yeah, these were custom springs, and I don't think they were given the correct specs. KONI do really, really good shocks for the MR2, well worth the extra dosh.
Same thing happened with my intraxx super sports. As I imported them, I couldn't really take them back, so I just got my local suspension shop (KMAC) to reset the rears.
If you bought locally though, my recommendation would be to just waltz back up there and say "fix this shit".
king springs still have the 15mm droop at the back. easily fixed after pulling the rear suspension apart, cutting off the spring perches & rewelding them higher up the strut (not) maybe if they did not use st165 gt4 front springs as the rear springs on the aw11 it would be better.. front spring rate is too high as well.... (easily fixed with coilovers)
there are a number of different part numbers for the kyb shocks depending on where you get them from - usa number is different ot the jap number
T
is that possible? the coil on the gt4 front spring is alot larger than the top mount of the spring on the aw11 rears, the gt4 spring is the same diameter all the way up while the aw11 spring is larger at the bottom than at the top, there is no way they would fit on
And T would you know the part numbers by chance, i did a search on this once before and came up with nothing

I've got a set of (stiff) springs to suit an AW11 and a set of KYBs sitting in the shed, the springs have been set to the legal height. Shocks might need regassing, I'm not sure.
RM.
oops my mistake - it's 165gt4 REAR springs, not front...i have all the part numbers.
also have a customer selling his springs off as i just did a coilover conversion on his car.
hey mullet - your kyb's - are they the externally adjustable ones? as i'm after a front pair for a project (alread have rears)
T
Yeah, adjustment on the top of the shock.
those old spring i got off spanktown that you had originally T they are the shit, do you know what they were at all, the coils are ridiculosly thick and soo close together

mullet, you want to sell the front pair?
wiso, they came off a jap aw11 s/c car, he wanted heavier coils & i told him they were heavy!! i suspect they are a jap tarmac rally spring - super heavy duty. funny that the car they came off had hit a tree....
T
ummmmm....well they are now on my sc, so i hope i don't end up the same way
