It wouldnt fit with standard firewall. I barely squeezed the 1JZ in my old 70 series SWB.Originally Posted by MS-75

On the strip I was changing into second before the 60ft mark bouncing off 7000 rpm, 1JZ didn't have enough balls to take off quickly in second. Became too annoying to drive around the street doing wheelstands everytime you took off![]()
All depends how much you want it.
(I did fit one into the crown.....)
HOWEVER-you are correct-it would be a lot of work.
Start with an 80 series, refresh the bearings etc, fit with microtech, make exhaust manifold, fit GT45, win.

Did anyone have a look in street machine when they had that blown big block landcruiser?
that had about 600hp and was running through the stock front diff/transfer case.
the army dudes had pulled it down and they said it had chunkier gears/chains than than a GTR and they can handle big power.
i think you should do it, then use it to ram raid a city or something.
GA23(never finished-now with cracked block) JZX83 (Tyre eater) 3sgte AE86. by now i should know better.
see what you find annoying...I would find incredibly entertaining hahaOriginally Posted by Skip

Project megap00 - Gave up and sold up. Money tree died
I am tossing up turbo 4.5 or gen3 v8 for my 80 series. It basically comes down to $$$$$ I could convince the 'boss' to let me piece together a kit but coughing up 6-10k for a full kit (eg CAPA turbo kit) will not happen.
Would anyone like to make a list of goodies for a good turbo kit? Fairly specific too, not just general crap like 'turbo' but a 'gt45 turbo' etc.
If i had a good list i could slowly collect bits until i was ready to put it all together. 220-250 rwkw would be nice.
That sort of power is a walk in the park for a turbo 4.5L. I haven't done this so could easily be wrong but here is my list
xr6t gt35 $1000
6 boost manifold $1100 I think
decent wastegate (tial, trust etc.) $500
top feed 550cc injectors $500 (from that injectorsonline place, may be cheaper?)
adaptronic $1100
ebay cooler $150
piping and silicone $300
3.5" exhaust with a HF cat $1000 (no cat $700)
bosch 040 intank $180
Unsure if you can use stock inlet manifold, throttle body etc. If you can then no costs, if you can't then have to get a custom manifold made up and I have no idea how much that costs.
Plus labour if you can't do it yourself. So those bits come to around $5700. That is about the cheapest reliable setup I reckon. May need a different fuel pressure regulator also if it isn't made for boost.
I would just spend a "little" bit more on stuff like fuel system as you know you would get the bug and with 4.5L and boost it just sounds oh so easy![]()
Oh yeah, boost controller. $380 for greddy profec B at the moment or get a bleed valve for $30![]()
if you're aiming for 250rwkw, why are you even thinking of a gt45? that's more 500rwkw territorya GT40 would be plenty.... even a 1.06 gt35r would get you that figure with plenty to spare.
other stuff? computer (your choice here, many options, from a few hundred to many thousands), 700cc+ injectors, custom manifold, 3" or 3.5" exhaust, big front mount (justjap job would probably be sufficient - good moneysaver. <$300), intercooler piping (will cost you more than your cooler!), external wastegate, boost controller... and I'm spent. and right there, you're over $6k anyhow![]()

draven if I was to do it I would be going for the GT45 and aiming for 400rwkw...220rwkw in a 2.5 tonne truck would exactly be that fast
